It\u2019s now being rehashed on an appeal.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-1\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\">\u201cUntil learning about Plaintiffs\u2019 claim in 2017, I had never heard the song \u2018Playas Gon\u2019 Play\u2019 and had never heard of that song or the group 3LW,\u201d Swift <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/taylor-swift-responds-shake-it-off-lawsuit-never-heard-3lw\/\">responded<\/a> in a legal document filed Monday. The country-turned-pop star added that she never listened to the tune \u201con the radio, on television, or in any film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group 3LW released a hit called \u201cPlayas Gon\u2019 Play\u201d back in 2000 when Swift was just ten years old, and the song climbed the charts when the \u201cLover\u201d singer was 11.<\/p>\n<p>The 3LW song includes phrases like \u201cplayas gon\u2019 play,\u201d and \u201cthem haters gonna hate.\u201d\u00a0Swift\u2019s \u201cShake it Off\u201d lyrics include, \u201c\u2019cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play,\u201d and \u201cthe haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swift said she almost exclusively listened to country music growing up and wasn\u2019t even allowed to watch MTV\u2019s \u201cTotal Request Live\u201d (TRL) \u2014 a show that would have aired \u201cPlayas Gon\u2019 Play\u201d \u2014 until she was about 13 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not watch the MTV show \u2018TRL,\u2019 and I did not go to clubs during this time,\u201d the 32-year-old said. \u201cThe only concerts I went to were for country and folk rock singers, LeAnn Rimes, Billy Gilman and Melissa Etheridge. My parents limited what I could watch and listen to, and did not permit me to watch \u2018TRL\u2019 until I was about 13 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Swift said that the phrases she\u2019s being sued over are \u201ccommonly used.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrior to writing \u2018Shake It Off,\u2019 I had heard the phrases \u2018players gonna play\u2019 and \u2018haters gonna hate\u2019 uttered countless times to express the idea that one can or should shrug off negativity,\u201d she said.
