The motion to include the Pledge was approved in March on a 6-2 vote, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fargo.k12.nd.us\/Page\/196\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vice President<\/a> and current board member Seth Holden as well as current board member Jim Johnson voting against the measure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI move that the Fargo board of education rescind the action it took on March 22nd, 2022 in which it voted to begin each regular meeting with a Pledge of Allegiance immediately following the call to order,\u201d Holden said in the Aug. 9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2zop9Co8bKw\">meeting<\/a> of the Fargo School Board. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/17\/mom-assignment-school-board-cuts-her-off\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Mom Reads Aloud Purported Assignment Given To Daughter. School Board Cuts Her Mic Because It\u2019s Too Obscene)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Holden clarified that the motion was not related to removing the Pledge of Allegiance from schools and classrooms, but only meetings of the school board. Holden said he was concerned the use of the phrase \u201cone nation under God\u201d in the Pledge violated the school\u2019s stated commitment to diversity, as well as making a statement he believed to be untrue, since many religions are represented in America.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: The Fargo, North Dakota school board has voted 7-2 in favor of no longer reciting the Pledge of Allegiance before meetings because it doesn\u2019t align with the school\u2019s \u201cdiversity code\u201d due to its use of the phrase \u201cUnder God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yes, this is real. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/r4pOmgYgwe\">pic.twitter.com\/r4pOmgYgwe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 1776 Project Pac (@1776ProjectPac) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/1776ProjectPac\/status\/1557409170692907009?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 10, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cGiven that the word \u2018God\u2019 in the text of the Pledge of Allegiance is capitalized,\u201d Holden said, \u201cthe text is clearly referring to the Judeo-Christian God, and therefore it does not include any other faiths, such as Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, all of which are practiced throughout the country and among our staff and students at FPS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holden added that atheists and agnostics would also be excluded from the phrase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the exclusion of these faiths or lack thereof within the Pledge automatically make the Pledge of Allegiance a non-inclusionary act in itself. For the board to begin each meeting by engaging in a non-inclusionary act, runs counter to our philosophy at FPS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holden then read an excerpt from the school\u2019s diversity, inclusion, and equity statement posted on the FPS website. \u201cEducation is better where schools are composed of students, teachers, and families drawn from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, \u201craces\u201d\/ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations. Yet a diverse school community alone is not enough.
