Convicted Class 5 felons <a href=\"https:\/\/codes.findlaw.com\/co\/title-18-criminal-code\/co-rev-st-sect-18-1-3-401.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can be fined<\/a> up to $100,000 in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado state legislators are legally bound to reside in their districts for at least a year before being elected, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradopolitics.com\/elections\/state-sen-pete-lee-indicted-on-felony-charge-of-falsifying-residence-information\/article_6ace90a8-1831-11ed-b0ee-370bc640e252.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Politics<\/a>.\u00a0The indictment accuses Lee of providing the allegedly false information around March 3, 2020, The Denver Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2022\/08\/09\/colorado-senator-pete-lee-indictment-el-paso-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lee claimed to be living with his stepdaughter in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house within his 11th District as his wife lived in a much larger one beyond it, Colorado Springs Indy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csindy.com\/temporary_news\/questions-arise-over-sen-pete-lees-residency\/article_dc42ec64-7a49-5d6a-bbc1-04ba1037f18c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> later that year. He admitted to going \u201cback and forth quite a bit,\u201d according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Lee was taped the same year conceding that he\u2019d never spent nights at the in-district house and saying he was \u201creally stressed\u201d about \u201cthat Goddamn residency thing,\u201d 9 News reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado Sun <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2022\/08\/09\/pete-lee-indicted-felony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published<\/a> a partially-redacted version of the indictment documents.
