The jerseys and game marked an end to the club\u2019s \u201cPride Festival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response to Daniels\u2019 refusal, Sean Nahas, her team\u2019s coach, chose not to place her on the roster of eligible players for the game. Nahas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2022\/08\/christian-pro-soccer-player-jaelene-daniels-refuses-wear-teams-pride-jersey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitted<\/a> he made the decision to appease his LGBTQ players.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Daniels encountered trouble for adhering to her beliefs. In May 2017, she left the national team\u2019s training camp two weeks after the United States Soccer Federation announced plans to have the women\u2019s team wear rainbow jersey numerals in overseas exhibitions during LBGT Pride Month. Since making this decision, Daniels hasn\u2019t represented the United States in international competition despite having frequently done so in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Daniels\u2019 choice to reject forced LGBTQ activism reflects her faith. When the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, she <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/08\/24\/pro-sports-christian-players-fans-dont-want-kind-around\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cThis world is falling farther and farther away from God \u2026 All that can be done by believers is to continue to pray.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The defender <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/08\/24\/pro-sports-christian-players-fans-dont-want-kind-around\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elaborated<\/a> on Instagram: \u201cI believe with every fiber in my body that what was written 2,000 years ago in the Bible is undoubtedly true. It\u2019s not a fictional book. It\u2019s not a pick and choose what you want to believe \u2026 My heart is that as Christians we don\u2019t begin to throw a tantrum over what has been brought into law today, but we become that much more loving. That through our love, the lost, rejected, and abandoned find Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniels does not stand alone.\u00a0On June 4, as the Tampa Bay Rays prepared for their own <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RaysBaseball\/status\/1533211110211477508?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1533211110211477508%7Ctwgr%5E1539e9781e44a606e2598e4eb8fb41fcf49beb3f%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gaytimes.co.uk%2Flife%2Ffive-tampa-bay-rays-players-decline-to-wear-lgbtq-inclusive-logos-during-pride-night-game%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cPride Night\u201d<\/a> against the Chicago White Sox, five pitchers chose not to wear adhesive patches depicting the Rays\u2019 sunburst emblem in a rainbow motif or caps featuring the \u201cTB\u201d logo in a similar fashion. Manager Kevin Cash kept none of them from playing. Two even pitched in relief.<\/p>\n<p>Reliever Jason Adam, who led Rays\u2019 pitchers in appearances as of Aug. 1, was among those who chose not to wear the themed accessories. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/sports\/rays\/2022\/06\/04\/most-but-not-all-rays-show-their-lgbtq-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> why afterward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of it comes down to faith,\u201d Adam said. \u201cSo it\u2019s a hard decision. Ultimately, we all said we want them to know that all are welcome and loved here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, some LGBT individuals and their supporters were enraged by the athletes declining to celebrate them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFACT CHECK: Jesus never said a word about homosexuality, but he did tell Tampa Rays pitcher Jason Adams (sic) not to be a judgmental, holier-than-thou -sshole,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BettyBowers\/status\/1533639612442234880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1533639612442234880%7Ctwgr%5E551ef80302514e63a5db097e2ab8d15275b80c40%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.out.com%2Fsports%2F2022%2F6%2F06%2Ftampa-bay-rays-players-refuse-wear-rainbow-colored-logo-pride\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted<\/a> Devin Green, an Internet comedian who mocks Christianity as the satirical character \u201cBetty Bowers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With woke ideology more swiftly politicizing women\u2019s sports, Daniels confronts more sustained criticism. When the Courage re-signed her in December, some alleged fans became so outraged that the club apologized in a statement defending the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very sorry to all those we have hurt, especially those within the LGBTQIA+ community,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/north-carolina-courage-jaelene-daniels-pride-game-jersey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a> read. \u201cWe\u2019ve spent the past few days reading your messages and reflecting on our actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision to re-sign Jaelene was not made lightly and included significant conversations between organization leadership and Jaelene. The priority expressed in those conversations is the safety of our players and maintaining an inclusive, respectful space for the entire team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement included several <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/nwsl-north-carolina-courage-jaelene-daniels-statement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">initiatives<\/a> to support the LGBT movement and \u201cremedy the harm\u201d Daniels\u2019 signing represented. One would be the commitment to rainbow-themed jerseys.
