The school instead\u00a0offered her a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/05\/19\/university-north-carolina-no-longer-offer-1619-project-nikole-hannah-jones-tenured-position\/\">5-year teaching term<\/a>. Jones, who is a UNC graduate, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/07\/06\/nikole-hannah-jones-denies-university-of-north-carolina-tenure-offer\/\">declined<\/a> the University\u2019s offer, noting that \u201cevery other chair before me, who also happened to be white, received that position with tenure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones filed a complaint with the University which was settled in July, with UNC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailytarheel.com\/article\/2022\/07\/university-released-hannah-jones-settlement\">paying<\/a> Jones $74,999.99. If the settlement was $1 more, the North Carolina Attorney General would be <a href=\"https:\/\/casetext.com\/statute\/general-statutes-of-north-carolina\/chapter-114-department-of-justice\/article-1-attorney-general\/section-114-25-attorney-general-to-report-payment-of-public-monies-pursuant-to-settlement-agreements-and-final-court-orders\">required<\/a> to write a written report detailing the terms and conditions of the payment. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/26\/nikole-hannah-jones-howard-college-critical-race-theory-professional-educator\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0\u20181619 Project\u2019 Founder Nikole Hannah-Jones Admits She\u2019s Not A \u2018Professional Educator\u2019 Despite Being A College Faculty Member)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere the amount of funds received exceeds seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000), the Attorney General shall file a written report with the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations and the Chairs of the Appropriations Subcommittees on Justice and Public Safety of the Senate and House of Representatives on the payments received by the State or a State agency,\u201d a North Carolina statute states.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NYT Writer Nikole Hannah-Jones Admits Calling White People \u2018Barbaric Devils\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/86CA5VZuF1\">https:\/\/t.co\/86CA5VZuF1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1283846435490996224?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 16, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Attorney General shall also report on the terms or conditions of payment and of any disbursements set forth in the agreement or order. The Attorney General shall submit a written report to the Fiscal Research Division of the General Assembly,\u201d according to the statute.<\/p>\n<p>UNC appeared to employ a similar strategy in 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/abc11.com\/silent-sam-unc-chapel-hill-confederate-statue\/5761015\/\">paying<\/a> the group\u00a0Sons of Confederate Veterans not to demonstrate with flags and banners on the university\u2019s campus following the removal of the Silent Sam Confederate monument.
