His co-conspirators broke into the tabulators and performed tests on the equipment, and DePerno was allegedly present during the tests.<\/p>\n<p>Possible charges include conspiracy, using a computer system to commit a crime, and willfully damaging a voting machine.<\/p>\n<p>There was no conflict of interest when the probe began, but DePerno has since become the presumptive Republican nominee for attorney general, the letter notes. Nessel, a Democrat, is running for re-election.<\/p>\n<p>A special prosecutor should thus be appointed to handle the prosecutorial review, the petition says.<\/p>\n<p> Response <\/p>\n<p>The campaign of DePerno, the lawyer in one of the highest-profile 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/michigan-judge-dismisses-antrim-county-election-case_3820603.html\">election cases<\/a> in the country, said he denied the allegations from Nessel\u2019s office, calling the petition \u201can incoherent liberal fever dream of lies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear that Dana Nessel is attacking our democracy and demonstrates she wants to turn our great country into a banana republic,\u201d the campaign said.\u00a0\u201cThis is a complete absurdity that shows the tactics of the institutional left.
