Liz Cheney said it \u201cwould be very difficult\u201d to support Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis if he were to run for president in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Cheney appears to be in deep water in her state\u2019s upcoming primary election <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/05\/liz-cheney-very-involved-wyoming-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">beginning with her vote<\/a> to impeach former President Donald Trump and her role on the January 6 Select Committee. Being a strong opponent of the former president, she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/07\/us\/politics\/liz-cheney-trump-republicans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> the New York Times that DeSantis\u2019 politics are \u201cvery dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that Ron DeSantis has lined himself up almost entirely with Donald Trump, and I think that\u2019s very dangerous,\u201d she said in the interview published Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and DeSantis have continuously stood neck-in-neck in polls on voters\u2019 preferences to be the Republican presidential nominee in the next election. A Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/trump-wins-cpac-straw-poll-desantis-takes-second-place\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll found<\/a> that Trump led DeSantis in voters\u2019 most favorable preference to be the nominee, where he garnered 69% support. The Florida governor came in second, attaining 24% favorability.<\/p>\n<p>Other polls have shown DeSantis leading Trump in hypothetical races, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/22\/ron-desantis-leads-donald-trump-poll-new-hampshire-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">survey<\/a> of hypothetical New Hampshire voters. Liz Cheney She Will \u2018Continue To Be Very Involved\u2019 Even If She Loses Primary)<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the interview, Cheney stated that the GOP \u201cis continuing to drive itself in a ditch,\u201d and she thinks \u201cit\u2019s going to take several cycles if it can be healed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cheney told the Times she prefers working with Democratic women with national security backgrounds rather than those of her own party.\u201cI would much rather serve with Mikie Sherrill and Chrissy Houlahan and Elissa Slotkin than Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, even though on substance certainly I have big disagreements with the Democratic women I just mentioned,\u201d Cheney added. \u201cBut they love this country, they do their homework and they are people that are trying to do the right thing for the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Star-Tribune\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trib.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/govt-and-politics\/the-poll-results-are-in-hageman-holds-commanding-lead-over-cheney\/article_1f33dfe0-02f1-11ed-8202-7befc0111031.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poll<\/a> released in July found Cheney\u2019s primary opponent, Harriet Hageman, leading her 52% to 30%.
