Ben Cardin of Maryland told \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d host Mike Emanuel, who asked about the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/28\/dem-spending-bill-shell-80-billion-supersize-irs\/\">$80 billion<\/a> expansion. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2014\/12\/22\/bombshell-report-irs-targeted-icky-conservative-groups\/\">(RELATED: BOMBSHELL REPORT: IRS Targeted \u2018Icky\u2019 Conservative Groups)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/03\/democrats-turbo-charging-irs-go-after-middle-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">expansion<\/a> of the IRS would include adding 87,000 new agents to the agency with over $45.6 billion being earmarked for enhanced tax enforcement. The legislation moved through the Senate after Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Chuck Schumer of New York reached an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/manchin-climate-deal-fund-epa-quietly-circumvent-scotus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agreement<\/a>\u00a0for it to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe auditing is going to be focused on those of high income, the large corporations etc., so there\u2019s no reason to be fearful and if you paid your taxes and comply with our laws, you should want to make sure everyone else does,\u201d Cardin continued.<\/p>\n<p>The IRS came under fire after ProPublica received and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/08\/internal-revenue-service-wealthy-americans-taxation-jeff-bezos\/\">published<\/a> tax information on some of the wealthiest Americans in 2021, and a similar leak involving conservative organizations <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2013\/05\/14\/irs-sent-confidential-info-on-conservatives-to-liberal-nonprofit-propublica\/\">occurred<\/a> in 2013. An <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/23\/jim-jordan-irs-treasury-propublica-leak-billionaire\/\">investigation<\/a> into the leak is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>The agency also came under fire for allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2013\/05\/23\/irs-obfuscating-the-truth-about-targeting\/\">targeting<\/a> the Tea Party during the Obama administration.
