Susan Collins (R-ME) is reportedly unlikely to vote to confirm Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden\u2019s nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget, a decision that would render the embattled nominee\u2019s path to confirmation even harder than before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Close associates of Collins have become convinced she won\u2019t vote to confirm Tanden, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/collins-manchin-tanden-biden-nominees-b5a4d50e-213a-4c3d-8f09-1584b1f6c17f.html\">Axios<\/a>. Although Collins hasn\u2019t publicly taken a position, Tanden, over the years, has called her \u201ccriminally ignorant,\u201d \u201cthe worst,\u201d and expressed hope that she\u2019d be haunted for the rest of her life for the way she treated Christine Blasey Ford during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings in 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While every one of Biden\u2019s nominees who has been put to a vote has been confirmed, Tanden threatens to change the score against the Biden administration\u2019s favor.\u00a0<\/span><span>Last week, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced that he would vote against Tanden, citing \u201coverly partisan statements\u201d that she\u2019s made about his Republican and Democratic colleagues:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>I have carefully reviewed Nerra Tanden\u2019s public statements and tweets that were personally directed towards my colleagues on both sides of the aisle from Senator Sanders to Senator McConnell and others. I believe her overly partisan statements will have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next director of the Office of Management and Budget. For this reason, I cannot support her nomination.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>As I have said before, we must take meaningful steps to end the political division and dysfunction that pervades our politics,\u201d added the Democratic senator from West Virginia. \u201cAt a time of grave crisis, it is more important than ever that we chart a new bipartisan course that helps address the many serious challenges our nation is facing.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden, however, has said that he doesn\u2019t plant to pull Tanden\u2019s nomination. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/21\/politics\/chuck-schumer-neera-tanden-omb\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has been working on getting the votes necessary to confirm Tanden, a candidate he said would be a \u201cvery good\u201d director of the Office of Management and Budget.<\/p>\n<p><span>During committee hearings, Tanden apologized for past statements she made about others, including social media comments that she has since deleted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI recognize that my language and my expressions on social media caused hurt to people, and I feel badly about that,\u201d said Tanden. \u201cI really regret it, and I recognize it\u2019s really important for me to demonstrate that I can work with others, and I look forward to taking that burden, and I apologize to people on either the Left or Right who are hurt by what I\u2019ve said.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSocial media does lead to too many personal comments, and my approach will be radically different,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
