Cynthia Lummis&#8217;s (R-WY) office claimed that every one of the more than 40 <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cryptocurrency\">crypto<\/a> exchanges in the United States is being investigated by the SEC, according to <i><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/michaeldelcastillo\/2022\/08\/04\/every-us-crypto-exchange-and-binance-is-being-investigated-by-the-sec-says-senator-lummis-staffer\/?sh=36b1ef4f22c2\">Forbes<\/a><\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>The SEC has taken high-profile public action against crypto exchanges. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/former-coinbase-employee-is-first-charged-with-insider-trading-crypto-industry\">Coinbase<\/a>, one of the largest crypto exchanges in the industry, is currently involved in an <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-26\/coinbase-faces-sec-investigation-over-cryptocurrency-listings#xj4y7vzkg\">SEC investigation<\/a> over allegations of improperly letting Americans trade digital assets as securities. The various exchanges are in different stages of investigation, but they are all under investigation, according to the staffer. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/bipartisan-legislation-cftc-cryptocurrency-regulation\">BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION WOULD REGULATE CRYPTOCURRENCIES THROUGH THE CFTC<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>The U.S Commodity Futures Trading Commission has <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cftc.gov\/PressRoom\/SpeechesTestimony\/phamstatement072122\">pushed back<\/a> on the SEC&#8217;s pressure on the crypto industry, alleging that the SEC is engaging in &#8220;regulation through enforcement,&#8221; thus creating tension between the two financial regulatory agencies. While the SEC wants to resolve the tension, Lummis&#8217;s staffer said that legislators would get involved if it is not resolved expediently. They also expect Congress to side with the CFTC on the matter. <\/p>\n<p>At least one senior executive at an exchange told <i>Forbes<\/i> that several exchanges had received Wells notices from the SEC, which are used to inform companies formally that an action is to be brought against them. <\/p>\n<p>Lummis&#8217;s staff has been involved in creating legislation to start taking steps toward regulating digital assets like crypto. Lummis co-sponsored the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/4356\/all-info\">Responsible Financial Innovation Act<\/a> alongside Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and introduced the legislation to Congress in June. The bill is being considered by the Finance Committee. <\/p>\n<p>Congress has taken additional actions toward regulating the industry in the last few weeks. Sens.
