At one point in the episode, Rogan and Williamson turn to the topic of the recent quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) report and the efforts of President Joe Biden to deflect the recession label. Rogan criticized the administration for tampering with the definition of the word \u201crecession,\u201d and claimed that politicians were \u201cgaslighting\u201d the American public by denying the label.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople think that [the word \u2018recession\u2019] is trivial, \u2019cause they are talking about this economic downturn, but it\u2019s not trivial, because we\u2019ve always used that term \u2018recession,\u2019 and we\u2019ve always used that term to define whether or not the economic policies that are currently in place and whether or not the management in the government has done a good job of making sure that the economy stays in a good place,\u201d Rogan said.\u00a0\u201cThey definitely haven\u2019t done that, so in order to escape that sort of distinction, they\u2019re literally changing the definition, which is terrible, and it should be pushed back against in a big way. It should be something that people get angry about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williamson appeared to agree with Rogan, arguing that changing the definition of \u201crecession\u201d served only to distract from the hard economic reality and to protect the political interests of the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bizarre thing about the recession situation is the fact that it doesn\u2019t matter what you call it.
