The claim stems from a satirical website.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The crime of treason is defined as \u201clevying war against the United States\u201d or \u201cadhering to the enemies of the United States, giving them aid and comfort,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/constitutioncenter.org\/interactive-constitution\/interpretation\/article-iii\/clauses\/39\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Constitution Center<\/a>. A serious crime, treason must be proven via \u201copen confession in court\u201d or on \u201cthe testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act,\u201d the center reports.<\/p>\n<p>A post shared on Facebook claims Haines was recently arrested by the U.S. military on charges of treason and \u201cmurder-for-hire.\u201d The post features what appears to be a screenshot of a news article with text that claims she was arrested Tuesday morning by members of the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General\u2019s (JAG) Corps, one of whom shot Haines in the arm when she resisted arrest.<\/p>\n<p>The claim is baseless. Check Your Fact found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=military+arrests+dni+avril+haines&#038;oq=military+arrests+dni+avril+haines&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l2.12380j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no credible news reports<\/a> to suggest Haines was arrested on any charges. Similarly, neither the <a href=\"https:\/\/search.justice.gov\/search?query=Avril+Haines+arrest&#038;op=Search&#038;affiliate=justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Justice<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/search.usa.gov\/search?query=Avril%20Haines%20arrest&#038;affiliate=defensegov&#038;utf8=%26%23x2713%3B\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Defense<\/a> nor the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dni.gov\/index.php\/newsroom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of the Director of National Intelligence<\/a>\u00a0has mentioned anything about her purported detainment on their respective websites.<\/p>\n<p>A keyword search reveals the claim stems from an <a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2022\/08\/military-arrests-dni-avril-haines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 3 article<\/a> published on the satirical website Real Raw News.
