The poll reflects Americans\u2019 feeling on the economy amid <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/19\/biden-inflation-speech-one-year-later\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">record inflation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/30\/gas-prices-hit-another-record-high\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">soaring gas prices<\/a> and\u00a0and an overall increase in the cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of Democrat respondents said the U.S. economy had entered a recession and an overwhelming majority of Republicans, 82%, also agreed, according to the poll. While <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/31\/joe-biden-poll-black-approval-2024-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/11\/bad-news-joe-biden-latino-hispanics-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hispanic<\/a> voters have historically supported Biden, over 50% respondents from each group agreed that America is in a recession. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/28\/wikipedia-change-definition-recession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Wikipedia Attempts To Change The Definition Of \u2018Recession\u2019 41 Times)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, you can\u2019t hide the facts from the American people,\u201d EJ Antoni, a Research Fellow and economist at the Heritage foundation told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cI don\u2019t understand what metric they are using. The economy is literally shrinking, we have less goods and services today than we did six months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A recession has been traditionally defined as two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. The term was originally defined in 1974 and has generally become standard. (Photo by Mario Tama\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe are in a recession, we have had two consecutive quarters of decreased economic growth which follows the traditional definition of a recession for almost one hundred years,\u201d Antoni said.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation reached nine percent in June, the largest year to date increase in over 40 years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/opub\/ted\/2022\/consumer-prices-up-9-1-percent-over-the-year-ended-june-2022-largest-increase-in-40-years.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a> reported in July. The surge has caused the price of food, gas and energy to rise dramatically, according to federal statistics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe average American has lost $3,400 in income due to the hidden tax of inflation,\u201d Antoni said. \u201cAnd if you take the average family with both the mother and father working, they are losing $6,800.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe administration continues to move in the wrong direction,\u201d Antoni told the DCNF. \u201cIf I had to write a book on how to destroy the American economy and then look at the Biden economy I wouldn\u2019t find many differences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The poll surveyed 1,500 U.S. adults between July 30-Aug. 2 with a 2.8% margin of error.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
