Ron DeSantis suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren on Thursday for refusing to enforce a number of state laws, including Florida\u2019s prohibition on sex change surgery for minors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWarren demonstrated his incompetence and willful defiance of his duties as a state attorney as early as June 2021, when he signed a \u2018Joint Statement\u2019 with other elected prosecutors in support of gender-transition treatment for children and bathroom usage based on gender identity,\u201d DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Executive-Order-22-176.pdf\">said in an order<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Warren also vowed not to enforce a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abortion-health-florida-government-and-politics-e8bdb85e6736085606ba2661c186a1d5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">15-week ban on abortion<\/a> in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis 15-week ban is an unconstitutional law. The Legislature is hoping courts ignore the Florida constitution. But I\u2019m upholding the law and protecting the fundamental rights of all Floridians,\u201d Warren <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/florida\/2022\/07\/07\/who-will-enforce-floridas-15-week-abortion-ban-and-what-if-they-refuse\/\">said of the law<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Susan Lopez, previously appointed by DeSantis to serve as a judge on the Hillsborough County Court, will serve as the State Attorney of the 13th Judicial Circuit during Warren\u2019s suspension.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BREAKING?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BREAKING<\/a>: Gov. Ron DeSantis is suspending State Attorney Andrew Warren, a Democrat, for vowing to not enforce prohibitions on sex changes for minors or restrictions on abortion<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you make yourself above the law, you have violated your duty.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BegsmOXqWR\">pic.twitter.com\/BegsmOXqWR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Florida\u2019s Voice (@FLVoiceNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FLVoiceNews\/status\/1555196966740582401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 4, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI have the utmost respect for our state laws and I understand the important role that the State Attorney plays in ensuring the safety of our community and the enforcement of our laws,\u201d Lopez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2022\/08\/04\/governor-ron-desantis-suspends-state-attorney-andrew-warren-for-refusing-to-enforce-florida-law\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cI want to thank the Governor for placing his trust in me, and I promise that I will faithfully execute the duties of this office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/29\/florida-schools-ignore-biden-revisions-title-ix\/\">sent a letter to K-12 schools in July<\/a> telling them to disregard a new proposed rule from the Biden Department of Education that threatened to withhold funds from schools that did not open preferred bathrooms and locker rooms to transgender individuals.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Department of Health <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/20\/hhs-florida-transgender-child-guidance-department-health\/\">issued guidance<\/a> that went against new rules from the Department of Health And Human Services (HHS) in April.
