Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) was killed in a car crash on Aug. 3 local authorities and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) confirmed. She was 58.<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 between two vehicles near the intersection of SR 19 and SR 119 near Nappanee, authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc57.com\/news\/jackie-walorski-killed-in-crash\">told<\/a> local media.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Elkhart County Sheriff\u2019s Office said that \u201ca northbound passenger car traveled left of center and collided head-on with a southbound sports utility vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All three occupants in the southbound vehicle died in the crash. They were identified by authorities as Walorski, 58, Elkhart, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-indiana\">Indiana<\/a>; Zachery Potts, 27, Mishawaka, Indiana; Emma Thomson, 28, Washington, D.C. The occupant of the other vehicle, identified as 56-year-old\u00a0Edith Schmucker, was also pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Thomson was a member of Walorski\u2019s staff, and Potts was the head of the St. Joseph County Republican Party, according to the South Bend Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>The Elkhart County Coroner\u2019s Office and the Elkhart County Sheriff\u2019s Office are currently investigating the incident.\u00a0Other details about the incident weren\u2019t provided by officials.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPLeader\/status\/1554919317845807105\">issued<\/a> a statement to confirm her death. Walorski\u2019s husband, Dean, \u201cwas just informed by the Elkhart County Sheriff\u2019s office that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon,\u201d McCarthy wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP leader called on people to \u201cplease keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In January 2021, Walorski became the ranking member of the House Ethics Committee. She also served on the House Ways and Means Committee and was the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support.<\/p>\n<p>Walorski, a Republican, was a lifelong resident of Indiana, according to her biography.\u00a0The congresswoman had represented Indiana\u2019s 2nd District since 2013.<\/p>\n<p> Response <\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust seeing the awful news about Rep.
