It is extremely unlikely anyone would be affected by simply touching fentanyl, according to medical experts.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that was responsible for over 70,000 overdose deaths in the U.S. in 2021, according to provisional data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/pressroom\/nchs_press_releases\/2022\/202205.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>. A Facebook post claims that even physically touching the drug is dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYall be careful out there,\u201d reads the July 21 post. \u201cApparently a Jackson TN employee passed out this morning from handling a dollar bill with Fentanyl on it. Heard rumors of a 2nd store but haven\u2019t 100% confirmed that one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>There is no evidence to support this claim. Check Your Fact searched local news outlets, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonsun.com\/search\/?q=fentanyl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Jackson Sun<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/search\/?q=Fentanyl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Tennessean<\/a>, but found no record of the alleged incident in Jackson occurring.\u00a0<\/span><span>Madison County District Attorney General Jody S.
