It\u2019s called Schedule F. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e2KqmlK0Ny\">pic.twitter.com\/e2KqmlK0Ny<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dinesh D\u2019Souza (@DineshDSouza) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DineshDSouza\/status\/1552792266074271744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 28, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaine.senate.gov\/press-releases\/kaine-leads-introduction-of-legislation-to-protect-merit-based-federal-workforce-system-federal-workers-rights\">introduced legislation<\/a> on Tuesday to \u201csecure the civil service and protect tens of thousands of federal employees from losing job protections and due process rights\u201d from Schedule F reclassification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur career, non-partisan public sector workforce is one of our nation\u2019s greatest assets. The last thing we need is for a president to fire dedicated and experienced public servants and replace them with sycophants and grifters without the skills to carry out the functions of government within the rule of law,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaine.senate.gov\/press-releases\/kaine-leads-introduction-of-legislation-to-protect-merit-based-federal-workforce-system-federal-workers-rights\">said<\/a>\u00a0Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, another sponsor of the bill, in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>The chair of a congressional subcommittee overseeing the civil service, Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly, also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/07\/26\/trump-schedule-f-civil-service\/\">penned an op-ed<\/a> in The Washington Post last week arguing against Schedule F reclassifications, and has sought to add an amendment to this year\u2019s defense spending package to prevent them in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo administration should be allowed to politicize the civil service. My amendment preserves congressional prerogative in determining which federal employees are vested with civil service protections and which are not,\u201d Connolly told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cFuture Administrations would be required to come to Congress for statutory authority before making sweeping changes to federal workforce classifications and protections. A core principle of our civil service must remain \u2013 that expertise and not political loyalty run this nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Kaine and Connolly represent districts in Virginia, where, notably, many civil servants reside. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/13\/federal-job-satisfaction-government-employees-biden-administration\/\">(RELATED: Way Less People Enjoy Working For Federal Gov\u2019t Under Biden)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Between 1997 and 2019, Democrats made up about half of federal bureaucrats, while Republicans constituted between a third and a quarter and the rest were independents, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/insight.kellogg.northwestern.edu\/article\/civil-servants-political-ideology\">study<\/a> from Northwestern University. There are roughly 2 million federal employees, according to Axios, so the estimated 50,000 that Schedule F would set its sights on make up just 2.5% of all federal jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Many prominent Republicans like Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, and Josh Hawley told Axios that they were either sympathetic to to Schedule F reclassifications or other overhauls to federal bureaucratic infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchedule F was a step in the right direction: We need to do more to hold the D.C. bureaucracy accountable.
