Peter Meijer, whose first vote in Congress was to impeach former President Donald Trump, in favor of replacing him with the Trump-endorsed John Gibbs.<\/p>\n<p>Meijer, who acknowledged in 2021 that voting to oust the former president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2021\/01\/14\/peter-meijer-trump-impeachment-vote\/4164012001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cmay have been an act of political suicide,\u201d<\/a> conceded defeat to Gibbs early Tuesday night after results showed the Trump favorite pulling ahead by a few thousand votes. Gibbs will face Democrat candidate Hillary Scholten in November in the battle for Michigan\u2019s District 3, which was recently rearranged from being a Trump district to one that Biden carried by nine points. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>While Trump critic Meijer readily voted for Democrat legislation such as the Biden administration\u2019s hefty spending bills and red flag laws, Gibbs ran on an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.votejohngibbs.com\/issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cAmerica First, Always\u201d platform<\/a>. In contrast, despite incessant mocking from the corrupt corporate media who repeatedly smeared him as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/02\/politics\/primary-election-results-arizona-michigan-missouri-2022\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201celection denier,\u201d<\/a> Gibbs acknowledged that there were \u201cwidespread irregularities and statistical anomalies in the 2020 election\u201d and demanded a \u201cfull forensic audit of what happened in 2020.\u201d This earned him the favor of Trump, who criticized impeachers such as Meijer. <\/p>\n<p>Despite Meijer\u2019s attempts to win over Democrat support by voting with them on multiple issues including impeachment shortly after he assumed office in 2021, the blue party poured hundreds of thousands of dollars and multiple advertisements into candidates such as Gibbs with the hopes that voters would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/interactive\/2022\/democrat-ad-spending-republican-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cnominate more extreme \u2014 and potentially more beatable \u2014 candidates.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/emilybrooksnews\/status\/1554812220114190340?s=20&#038;t=fJPUUColDJsPwmLuuet6hA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WalshFreedom\/status\/1554805266033659904?s=20&#038;t=fJPUUColDJsPwmLuuet6hA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and<\/a> the corporate media lamented Meijer\u2019s loss but refused to acknowledge that Republican voters genuinely favored a candidate like Gibbs. Instead, they blamed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"pVOWfToBw7GH2mZal6utreFJU39D\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cDemocrats own that.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Rep. Meijer\u2019s loss follows South Carolina Rep. Tom Rice\u2019s primary defeat in June to the Trump-endorsed\u00a0state Rep.
