The live fire drills will take place at six points surrounding the island and could represent a test run for eventual moves to assert full control over Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis action is targeted at the US\u2019s shocking recent major escalation on the Taiwan issue, and serves as a serious warning to Taiwanese independence forces or those seeking independence,\u201d Shi Yi, a spokesperson for the PLA\u2019s Eastern Theater Command, said in a <a title=\"Weixin\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/gMzZe\/https:\/\/mp.weixin.qq.com\/s\/ewXI8yXSyh_uA4yef7plHg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rocket launchers mobilized and stealth fighter jets took off from the Chinese mainland Tuesday evening, Global Times reported. Taiwan\u2019s defense ministry said 21 Chinese warplanes violated Taiwan\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/20\/china-adiz-taiwan-violations-biden-versus-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">air defense identification zone<\/a> Tuesday, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/02\/asia\/china-pelosi-taiwan-military-drills-intl-hnk-ml\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/pelosi-taiwan-trip-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>(RELATED: REPORT: Pelosi Is Heading To Taiwan Despite Looming Threats Of War)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng met with U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns late Tuesday to protest against the \u201cextremely vicious\u201d nature of Pelosi\u2019s visit, accusing the U.S. of supporting Tawianese independence, Xinhua <a href=\"https:\/\/english.news.cn\/20220803\/ed88e9d1d8a04b7b9d4e53eb22e0b040\/c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina will definitely take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity in response to the US Speaker\u2019s visit. All the consequences must be borne by the US and the \u2018Taiwan independence\u2019 separatist forces,\u201d Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement Tuesday, Global Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe announced PLA drills, likely to be larger in scale than the one in the 1996 Taiwan Straits crisis, serve not only as warnings to the US and \u2018Taiwan independence\u2019 secessionists, but also as rehearsals for the PLA to reunify the island by force,\u201d the Global Times reported, citing experts.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions flared between China and Taiwan in 1996 after the U.S. granted former Taiwanese president Lee Teng-hui permission to visit the U.S. on an unofficial basis, the first time a Taiwanese leader had traveled to the U.S., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/08\/02\/pelosis-taiwan-visit-china-threats-1996-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Axios.
