Thirty-eight Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatePress\/status\/1554611938751127553\">joined<\/a> 48 Democrats in supporting the legislation, which passed the House 342-88.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate first passed the Honoring Our PACT ACT in June, 84-14, but slight changes in the House of Representatives required the upper chamber to take a second vote. Twenty-five Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/pat-toomey-honoring-our-pact-act-democrats-media-amendment\/\">switched<\/a> their votes Wednesday to \u201cno\u201d after Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey called attention to a provision that would create $396 billion in mandatory spending, which he claimed would \u201clikely will be filled with spending totally unrelated to veterans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toomey proposed an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/congressional-record\/volume-168\/issue-123\/senate-section\/article\/S3643-2\">amendment<\/a> that would direct more than $116 billion and make the rest discretionary, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer refused to allow votes on amendments before Tuesday. Toomey\u2019s amendment <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatePress\/status\/1554595059621920774\">failed<\/a> 47-48.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Sen. Because we all know if you<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle6212\" class=\"subtitle processed\" data-id=\"6212\" data-start=\"7920040\" data-end=\"7923043\">raise the concern about the<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle6215\" class=\"subtitle processed\" data-id=\"6215\" data-start=\"7923043\" data-end=\"7924545\">unrelated provision, people in<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle6218\" class=\"subtitle processed\" data-id=\"6218\" data-start=\"7924545\" data-end=\"7927413\">this chamber and outside will<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle6221\" class=\"subtitle processed\" data-id=\"6221\" data-start=\"7927413\" data-end=\"7929716\">stand up and make up all kinds<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle6224\" class=\"subtitle processed\" data-id=\"6224\" data-start=\"7929716\" data-end=\"7933921\">of fabrications and falsehoods,\u201d Toomey said on the Senate floor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prominent Democrats inside and outside of Congress used the delay to claim that Republicans were opposed to funding healthcare for veterans. Comedian Jon Stewart called Toomey a \u201cconsistent dick,\u201d and claimed that his objections were \u201cnonsense.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/29\/jon-stewart-pat-toomey-veteran-funding-pact-act\/\"><strong>(RELATED: \u2018He\u2019s Been A Consistent D*ck\u2019: Jon Stewart Lashes Out At Sen. Toomey Over Veteran Funding)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Veterans are currently eligible to <a href=\"https:\/\/cck-law.com\/veterans-law\/how-can-i-receive-va-disability-benefits-after-burn-pit-exposure\/\">receive<\/a> disability benefits if they contract more than two dozen diseases after working near burn pits.
