Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s pledge to keep abortion legal.<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/07\/gretchen-whitmer-lawsuit-abortion-constitutional-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sued<\/a> in April to overturn the 1931 law, which she claims violates the state constitution, and a separate Planned Parenthood lawsuit resulted in a temporary injunction barring state authorities from enforcing the law, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/08\/01\/michigan-abortion-pre-roe-ban-local-prosecutors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Axios. But the temporary injunction against the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/pro-life-doctors-debunk-common-myths-abortion-womens-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abortion<\/a> ban doesn\u2019t apply to county prosecutors, the Court of Appeals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courts.michigan.gov\/4a17bc\/siteassets\/case-documents\/uploads\/coa\/public\/orders\/2022\/361470_29_01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ruled<\/a>, meaning the state\u2019s abortion ban can be enforced at the local level.<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovWhitmer\/status\/1021848817111576577\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> she would repeal the abortion ban in 2018 during her gubernatorial campaign and began tweeting about the issue frequently after the Supreme Court took up the Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization case in 2021. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/18\/michigan-judge-elizabeth-gleicher-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Whitmer<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovWhitmer\/status\/1552625153422540806\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">insisted<\/a> abortion was still legal in Michigan <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovWhitmer\/status\/1540726541654573057\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">four<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovWhitmer\/status\/1553139231534551040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">separate<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovWhitmer\/status\/1553123369108836354\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">times<\/a> after the court granted a temporary injunction against the ban.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">When I said I\u2019d fight like hell for abortion rights, I meant it. Wade June 24, ending the precedent which had prevented Michigan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/illegal-unregulated-abortion-pills-womens-health-here-media-vice-new-york-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abortion<\/a> ban from being enforced for 50 years. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/trigger-abortion-texas-idaho-tennesee-court-battles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Three More States Are Poised To Ban Abortion Amid Court Battles)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the court ruling allowing county prosecutors to enforce the abortion ban, a county judge placed a restraining order on prosecutors in counties with abortion providers to block enforcement pending a Wednesday hearing, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abortion-health-crime-michigan-state-courts-867a70185c55fd15f06bd17f2b8195c0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.
