Robinson ruled that Watson violated the league\u2019s personal conduct policy and levied a six-game suspension for the Browns quarterback, who was accused by more than 20 female massage therapists of sexual misconduct.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sides have three days to appeal Robinson\u2019s decision, which would be heard by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFLPA announced on Sunday it had no plans to appeal the decision and called on the NFL to promise the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The league had been pushing for a suspension of at least a year, while the union and Watson argued the 26-year-old should not get any games. The sides were unable to agree on settlement terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Accusers had repeatedly accused Watson of lurid, unwanted sexual behavior. Watson did not face criminal charges pertaining to the allegations, and has vehemently denied any non-consensual sexual contact with his accusers. He settled civil cases with 23 of the 24 accusers who sued him, with three more settlements being reported on Monday. Watson\u2019s former team, the Houston Texans, settled lawsuits with 30 of his accusers in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout this process, Deshaun and his representatives have abided by the newly created and agreed upon process for the NFLPA and the NFL to defer to the objective Judge Sue L. Robinson to comprehensively review all information and make a fair decision,\u201d Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. \u201cWe respect Judge Robinson\u2019s decision, and at the same time, empathize and understand that there have been many individuals triggered throughout this process. We know Deshaun is remorseful that this situation has caused much heartache to many and he will continue the work needed to show who he is on and off the field, and we will continue to support him.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/deshaun_watson.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>Deshaun Watson at Browns training camp on July 30, 2022.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Outside of Cleveland, there was unease and confusion surrounding Robinson\u2019s decision. Players, front office personnel and fans pointed to Calvin Ridley\u2019s year-long suspension for gambling and Tom Brady\u2019s four game Deflategate ban as evidence of a broken system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe league wants to hold their players to high standards,\u201d one NFL general manager told ESPN. \u201cImage is critical to keep growing the female fan base. I\u2019ve spoken to women in our organization, I\u2019ve spoken to women in our community and it\u2019s something that I\u2019ll continue to do.
