Biden said the strike did not lead to civilian casualties.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson for the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, wrote on Twitter on Monday that \u201can air strike was carried out on a residential house in Sherpur area of Kabul city\u201d the past Sunday. Mujahid said the attack was conducted by American drones.<\/p>\n<p>Zawahiri succeeded Osama bin Laden as the leader in June 2011, when bin Laden was killed by the U.S. military.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI listed\u00a0Zawahiri as a \u201cmost wanted terrorist,\u201d for the murder of U.S. nationals outside the United States (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/wanted\/wanted_terrorists\/ayman-al-zawahiri\/download.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Biden called Zawahiri the \u201cnumber two\u201d at the time of the 911 terrorist attack and \u201cthe mastermind\u201d behind attacks against Americans \u201cfor decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zawahiri was also indicted for his alleged role in the Aug. 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, according to an FBI wanted notice (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/wanted\/wanted_terrorists\/ayman-al-zawahiri\/download.pdf\">pdf<\/a>). Biden said the embassy attack killed 224 people and wounded 4,500 others.
