Consider a few of the outrageous sins and stunts the party of evil perpetrated over the past few days, weeks and months. Oh, oops \u2014 all these planet-hating pols are <em>Democrats<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced an \u201cInflation Reduction Act\u201d whose\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/29\/delusional-democrats-subsidize-biz-in-one-bill-then-tax-it-in-another\/\">$485 billion\u00a0<\/a>in spending is largely a giveaway to Big Auto. The bill will give families earning up to $300,000 as much as $7,500 in tax credits to purchase electric vehicles. Cars eligible for the credit can\u00a0cost up\u00a0to $80,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Electric cars emit less carbon than gas cars, yes.\u00a0They are also\u00a0<em>cars\u00a0<\/em>(and with the eye-watering $80,000 price \u201ccap\u201d on tax credits, more likely large SUVs). They actually pose more danger to pedestrians, as they are quieter and heavier and accelerate faster than regular cars.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats\u2019 monomaniacal insistence on subsidizing EVs points up a truth about the party: It will do\u00a0<em>anything<\/em>\u00a0to maintain the fiction that the United States can substantially reduce carbon emissions without asking middle-class and affluent suburbanites to change their way of life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Climate change is an existential crisis, the Dems say \u2014 but not one that would require anyone to rethink suburban sprawl, multiple daily SUV \u201cschool runs\u201d in different directions and generously spaced McMansions and office parks.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22136665345211.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg suggested Americans carpool or use public transit as gas prices soar.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP\/Susan Walsh<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is responsible for the Inflation Reduction Act\u2019s transportation parts. <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/2022\/07\/transit-democrats-car-climate-deal-00048599\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Surprise<\/a>: The words \u201cmass transit,\u201d \u201cmass transportation,\u201d \u201csubway\u201d or \u201cbus\u201d appear\u00a0<em>nowhere <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/inflation_reduction_act_of_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in the<\/a>\u00a0725-page bill.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As gas prices soared earlier this year, Mayor Pete never, ever, ever suggested that just maybe, maybe, Americans upset about soaring bills might consider carpooling or (gasp) seeing if there were a bus route nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg, once urbanists\u2019 great green hope, has a carefully bifurcated message: Buses are OK for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/secretary-pete-buttigieg-opening-testimony-house-committee-transportation-and-infrastructure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poor people in Baltimore<\/a>.\u00a0Everyone else shouldn\u2019t worry that\u00a0<em>they\u2019ll\u00a0<\/em>have to take the bus or ride a bike; the government will heavily subsidize their car purchases.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22209397508186.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cndimages.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/AP22209397508186.jpg\" alt=\"Consumers fill up at a Shell gas station July 13, 2022, in Miami Beach, Fla.\" class=\"wp-image-23276519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22209397508186.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22209397508186.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22209397508186.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22209397508186.jpg?quality=75&#038;strip=all&#038;w=512 512w\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Gov. Kathy Hochul suspended the gas tax as prices remain high.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP\/Marta Lavandier<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This is the same Mayor Pete who\u2019s used his federal authority to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nyc.streetsblog.org\/2022\/06\/29\/mta-we-have-answered-the-feds-400-annoying-congestion-pricing-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delay<\/a>\u00a0New York\u2019s congestion-pricing program, meant to reduce driving into Manhattan. His department\u2019s regulatory arm has sent the state-run Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which would operate the program, more than 400 laborious \u201ctechnical questions\u201d about how it would work \u2014 questions the public\u2019s not allowed to see.<\/p>\n<p>Hmm. Buttigieg\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0want to put off congestion pricing indefinitely because he\u2019s eyeing a 2024 presidential run and doesn\u2019t want to be painted nationally as the guy who wants to charge you to drive your own car?<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the far-left congresswoman who drives a Tesla to DC rather than take the train, has remained as mysteriously silent as a sphynx on Buttigieg\u2019s congestion-pricing delays. She\u2019s not worried about alienating Queens car owners \u2014 is she?<\/p>\n<p>How \u2019bout that Democratic New York governor, Kathy Hochul? Her response to the gas-price crisis was to suspend the gas tax \u2014 for everyone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This wasn\u2019t a matter of protecting the poor. The state could have sent families earning below $50,000 or so a check.\u00a0This was a sop to middle-class swing voters. That\u2019s even though higher gas prices might encourage them to reduce their driving \u2014 good for the planet, no?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, it emerged last week that Carolyn Maloney, our liberal Manhattan congresswoman, corruptly threw around her power half a decade ago to bully New York City into killing a bike lane on 85th\u00a0Street.<\/p>\n<p>If we\u00a0<em>are\u00a0<\/em>going to encourage people to get out of their cars and onto their bikes, it makes sense to do so in one of the densest congressional districts in the country, heavy with mass transit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/AP22208672879067.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"676\" src=\"https:\/\/cndimages.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/AP22208672879067.jpg\" alt=\"Chairwoman Rep. Carolyn Maloney in 2016 left a voicemail for a community-board leader counseling against a proposed bike lane.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP\/Mariam Zuhaib<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nevertheless, identifying herself as \u201c<em>Congresswoman\u00a0<\/em>Maloney,\u201d though her official title had no relevance to the matter, Maloney in 2016 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/27\/nyc-citi-bike-rider-carling-mott-killed-by-tractor-trailer\/\">left a voicemail<\/a> for a community-board leader counseling against the lane, <a href=\"https:\/\/nyc.streetsblog.org\/2022\/07\/29\/cuo-no-andrews-sis-played-role-with-rep-carolyn-maloney-in-city-killing-e-85th-bike-lane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calling it<\/a> a \u201csecurity breach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, 28-year-old Carling Mott, riding a Citi Bike, was crushed to death by a truck on the unprotected street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On climate, all these good Democrats are supposedly liberal-minded progressives.\u00a0But none of them will dare say to swing voters: There is no cost-free fix for climate change.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry, the Dems instead say to suburban voters: You can keep your precious SUV, magically powered by wind and solar \u2014 and those wind and solar panels and transmission lines won\u2019t be anywhere near\u00a0<em>your\u00a0<\/em>houses.<\/p>\n<p>Which is it, prominent leadership Democrats?
