For weeks, Lake has averaged a 10-point lead over her rival in the polls, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/governor\/az\/arizona_governor_republican_primary-7561.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to RealClear Politics.<\/p>\n<p>The competition between Robson and Lake has intensified in the weeks leading up to the primary, as Robson poured millions in negative ads against Lake into the Arizona airwaves, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/articles\/2022\/07\/21\/trump_and_pence_wade_into_fierce_arizona_primary_battle__147924.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to RealClear Politics. Robson has attempted to label her opponent as \u201cFake Lake\u201d after several controversies called Lake\u2019s commitment to conservative principles into question.<\/p>\n<p>Robson campaign spokesperson Matthew Benson told the Daily Caller News Foundation the campaign feels confident heading into Tuesday\u2019s primary.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">OUTLIER OR NOT? We are facing an uphill battle against an opponent with mainstream recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lake was a registered Democrat from 2006-2012 and supported President Obama during his 2008 election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/article\/news\/politics\/kari-lake-is-running-for-governor-as-a-republican-but-has-also-been-a-registered-democrat\/75-550469a9-0665-404c-84b0-7548d5681a41\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to 12News. Lake told 12News she had grown disenchanted with the GOP during the Bush years because of the \u201cendless wars\u201d in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, Lake returned to the Republican party in 2012, and she has portrayed herself as a Trump loyalist since the start of the campaign in 2021, RealClear Politics reported.<\/p>\n<p>Benson said the campaign expects a strong showing with mail-in ballots, which are especially popular among older voters.<\/p>\n<p>The election is a proxy battle between Trump and former Vice-President Mike Pence, who has endorsed Robson, for the direction of the Republican Party, RealClear Politics reported.
