The exercises are the latest in a series of back-to-back Chinese drills in the region. However, they\u2019re notable in that the announcement was accompanied by footage of China\u2019s DF-17 hypersonic missile.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed the \u201caircraft carrier killer,\u201d the DF-17 is a nuclear-capable ballistic missile fitted with a hypersonic glide vehicle that allows its payload to glide in low orbit at great speed before plunging down on its target. The footage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/message-pelosi-china-releases-live-fire-footage-d-17-carrier-killer-missile-first-3592961\">released<\/a> this week marks the first time ever that a live fire recording of the weapon has been released.<\/p>\n<p>The United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freemalaysiatoday.com\/category\/world\/2022\/08\/01\/us-deploys-ships-planes-near-taiwan-as-pelosi-tour-kicks-off\/\">announced<\/a> that it was moving a carrier strike group and air support closer to Taiwan. The USS Ronald Reagan is typically stationed at Yokosuka, Japan, and is moving back into the South China Sea after making a five-day port call in Singapore last week.<\/p>\n<p> Pelosi to Visit Taiwan <\/p>\n<p>Pelosi is currently on a tour of Indo-Pacific nations, including Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea. However, what has made the trip remarkable is her speculated plan to visit Taiwan, which has been the target of CCP military <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/taiwan-military-repels-chinese-incursion-over-median-line_4585382.html\">harassment<\/a> and intimidation for years.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwanese media outlets have reported that unidentified Taiwanese officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/pelosi-begins-closely-watched-asia-tour-singapore-2022-08-01\/\">confirmed<\/a>\u00a0that Pelosi is likely to stop in Taiwan on Aug. 2 or Aug. 3.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese regime\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/china-warns-its-military-will-not-sit-idly-by-if-pelosi-visits-taiwan-2022-08-01\/\">stated<\/a>\u00a0on Aug. 1 that its military would \u201cnot sit idly by\u201d if Pelosi were to visit the island.
