Scott Walker thinks it would be good for the GOP to have a competitive presidential primary in 2024, he told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The comments came at the National Conservative Student Conference and reflected a common sentiment among speakers former President Donald Trump will not be the sole candidate during the 2024 GOP primary. Throughout the conference, the overall message delivered by the various leaders in the conservative movement was to look toward the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s earned the right to do that. Whether he is the nominee, I think \u2026 even if he does get into the race, it\u2019s healthy to have a good debate,\u201d Walker said. \u201cBecause it is not his second term, or consecutive, I don\u2019t think that precludes anyone else from consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker pointed to a historical example of how Ronald Reagan challenged then-President Gerald Ford during the 1976 GOP primary as precedent for the conservative movement\u2019s leader to be challenged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly, the de facto leader is Donald Trump,\u201d Walker told the DCNF. \u201cIs he the exclusive leader? Kristi Noem as potential successors to Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The conference also featured prominent Trump administration officials, including Pence.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Over 400 students attended the conference, held July 25 through 30 in the heart of Washington, D.C.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/jim-jordan-tells-gop-embrace-populism-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: <\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/01\/jim-jordan-tells-gop-embrace-populism-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jim Jordan Tells GOP To \u2018Tee Up\u2019 And Embrace Populism For 2024)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if our movement is that divided,\u201d Pence\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7y5S3dlbbsw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told the conference<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know if the president and I differ on issues, but we may differ on focus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFormer Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos declined to endorse a candidate for 2024. \u201cI don\u2019t do hypotheticals,\u201d she said, explaining that she is \u201cworking towards the fall\u201d and the midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>Trump still remains the front-runner almost two years out from the election, with Republican Florida Gov.
