Solis and co-authored by Sheila Kuehl, the policy allegedly aims to better represent the \u201ccommunity\u201d in city government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos Angeles County\u00a0is a community of immigrants from each corner of the world,\u201d said Solis in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hildalsolis.org\/los-angeles-county-approves-motion-waive-citizenship-requirements-los-angeles-county-government-employment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cAnd while our County-government workforce reflects the community it represents, there is room for improvement. This motion seeks to make clear that the County, as one of the largest employers in the region, strives to be an inclusive and diverse workforce, and is committed to not excluding nor allowing citizenship to be a barrier to employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Democrats will use any excuse to put illegal aliens ahead of American Citizens. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kgNQs4CVPo\">https:\/\/t.co\/kgNQs4CVPo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1468778168425324547?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Solis noted an estimated 880,000 non-citizens live in Los Angeles and the county\u2019s Public Defender\u2019s Office had received \u201capplications from non-citizens who are otherwise allowed to practice law in California but are disqualified from the application process because of the citizenship requirement,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/los-angeles-county-nixes-citizenship-requirement-government-jobs\">Fox Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles County Public Defender Ricardo Garc\u00eda said requiring citizenship to work for the city government is tantamount to discrimination based on \u201ccultural, racial, ethnic, or religious characteristics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarriers to employment based on cultural, racial, ethnic, or religious characteristics are contrary to our core values. Citizenship overlaps these demographic characteristics,\u201d Garc\u00eda said. \u201cThis motion, by Supervisors Solis and Kuehl, will promote equity in hiring and give the Public Defender\u2019s Office access to the most qualified applicants for employment, irrespective of their citizenship status.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn immigrant\u2019s experience will advance our vision, mission, and values to protect our clients\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/world\/united-nations\/human-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legal and human rights<\/a>\u00a0and enable us to more readily realize my goal that our employees fully represent the demographics of the population that we serve,\u201d Garc\u00eda continued.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People in the United States illegally can now work for Los Angeles County with no requirement to provide proof of citizenship.
