Kathy Hochul (<a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Letter-to-Gov-Hochul-Re.-nursing-homes.pdf\">pdf<\/a>), the ranking members from the two committees pointed to guidance issued by former Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-andrew-cuomo\">Andrew Cuomo<\/a> on March 25, 2020, which stated that \u201cno resident shall be denied readmission or admission to the [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19,\u201d and \u201c[nursing homes] are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident \u2026 be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This order contradicted guidance issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the July 26 letter said. It \u201clikely\u201d led to the \u201cunnecessary deaths\u201d of thousands, the letter added.<\/p>\n<p>The letter reminded Hochul that her administration had promised to be \u201cfully transparent\u201d with regards to the data related to nursing home admissions and COVID-19 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investigation is even more important considering troubling reports from the New York Assembly Minority Leader that you are in \u2018no rush\u2019 to provide answers to the families that lost loved ones in New York nursing homes,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>The letter asked Hochul to produce critical material regarding the issue no later than Aug. 9. This includes the total number of COVID-19-related <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-nursing-home-deaths\">nursing home deaths<\/a>, all state-issued guidance, executive orders, and directives regarding hospital discharges to nursing homes.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview last year, former White House Coronavirus Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx admitted that Cuomo\u2019s March 25, 2020 guidance violated CMS guidance.
