Republicans chose state Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer as their candidate in the primary election, and Democrats chose state Rep. Yadira Caraveo.<\/p>\n<p>During the primaries, Kirkmeyer\u2019s campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/candidate\/H2CO08079\/\">raised $337,756<\/a>, according to the FEC, placing her second to last regarding campaign contributions. However, she triumphed over the other three Republican contenders, receiving 40.9 percent of the vote. Her closest opponent, Jan Kulmann, received 22.7 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Caraveo, who ran unopposed, raised over $847,012, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/candidate\/H2CO08020\/\">according<\/a> to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, if Republicans are to gain the majority in the House, they will need to flip a net of five seats. And Colorado\u2019s newest district is a true toss-up. As such, the race for CD8 could help decide who controls Congress following the November election.<\/p>\n<p> Kirkmeyer vs. Caraveo <\/p>\n<p>Kirmeyer, a conservative and state senator for Colorado\u2019s 23rd district, described herself as a common sense candidate to The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving grown up on a farm\u00a0and later working as a\u00a0dairy farmer, I was taught and instilled with\u00a0a deep appreciation for the\u00a0values of hard work and frugality. Don\u2019t\u00a0spend more than you earn!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that her upbringing instilled the deep conservative values that will inform her decision-making in Congress.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/06\/27\/Kirkmeyer.jpg\"><\/a> State Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer (R-Fort Lupton) said she is appealing to Congressional District 8 Republican primary voters by touting a legislative record that includes 17 bills she sponsored being adopted since her 2020 election.
