To\u00a0that end, our Members have been working on a\u00a0robust package of public safety bills and have\u00a0made immense progress in our discussions. Work\u00a0continues on this essential legislation, and we plan\u00a0to bring this legislation to the Floor\u2014increasing\u00a0safety with accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, our Democratic Majority will take up and\u00a0pass the Assault Weapons Ban legislation: a\u00a0crucial step in our ongoing fight against the deadly\u00a0epidemic of gun violence in our nation,\u201d Pelosi continued, asking her caucus to support a \u201csame-day authority\u201d procedural vote to allow the bill to move forward. \u201cIn order\u00a0to succeed in passing the Assault Weapons Ban,\u00a0we must first pass same-day authority so that we\u00a0can pass the Rule enabling us to bring up the\u00a0Assault Weapons Ban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease vote yes on same-day authority, yes on the\u00a0Rule for the Assault Weapons Ban, and yes on the\u00a0legislation to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks for putting People Over Politics,\u201d the brief letter concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the bill was set for consideration on July 27.<\/p>\n<p>However, that vote was delayed after infighting among Democrats\u2014several Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/2022\/07\/27\/democrats-delay-votes-on-police-gun-control-legislation\/\">reportedly<\/a> had refused to vote for the bill\u2014threw into doubt the possibility of advancing the legislation through the House.
