Wade.<\/p>\n<p>The company will automatically delete entries from users\u2019 location history for certain health-related locations including abortion clinics and fertility centers, it <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/technology\/safety-security\/protecting-peoples-privacy-on-health-topics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> July 1. Several experts have raised concerns about the pledge, given Google\u2019s history of secretive health data collection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProtecting our users\u2019 privacy and securing their data is core to Google\u2019s work. That\u2019s why we design products to help people keep their personal information private, safe, and secure,\u201d Google said in its announcement. \u201cPrivacy matters to people \u2014 especially around topics such as their health.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/14\/google-funding-vox-media-gender-theory-language-please\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Google Funding Vox Media Effort To Normalize Fringe Gender Theory)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Experts questioned <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/08\/google-offers-to-break-up-to-prevent-antitrust-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google\u2019s<\/a> commitment to protecting user privacy in comments to the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans should not be deceived by Google\u2019s announcement. This is not a company that values the safety of user data or privacy, but rather a company that prioritizes partisan political gain regardless of what that means for their users,\u201d Jake Denton, a researcher at the Heritage Foundation Tech Policy Center, told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoogle was eager <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2020\/digital\/news\/google-releases-huge-trove-of-data-tracking-user-movements-during-covid-19-crisis-1234570096\/#!\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/variety.com\/2020\/digital\/news\/google-releases-huge-trove-of-data-tracking-user-movements-during-covid-19-crisis-1234570096\/%23!&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1659122061848000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3Q5ZgZBntI9pH6_yMyPpgO\">to reveal user data during the COVID era<\/a>\u00a0and to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wccftech.com\/google-user-health-data-legal\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/wccftech.com\/google-user-health-data-legal\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1659122061848000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0FXt093HWAhR1ZwGTBpXu5\">use user\u2019s health data for profit<\/a>,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a bold and partisan declaration by Google, and it is one that Attorney Generals in states like Texas should take seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google secretly partnered with Ascension Hospitals, the second-largest healthcare system in the U.S., to collect and process data from its 2,600 hospitals and facilities in a 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/11\/15\/google-project-nightingale-medical-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">initiative<\/a> called \u201cProject Nightingale,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/google-s-secret-project-nightingale-gathers-personal-health-data-on-millions-of-americans-11573496790\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to The Wall Street Journal. He said the company isn\u2019t transparent when it comes to how it uses health data and what its policies and procedures are.<\/p>\n<p>Shoshana Zuboff, an emerita Harvard Business School professor, said the potential Google has to surveil women considering abortions has much broader implications for Americans and the privacy of our data.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe harsh reality is that while we\u2019re now worried about women who seek abortions being targeted, the same apparatus could be used to target any group or any subset of our population \u2014 or our entire population \u2014 at any moment, for any reason that it chooses,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/07\/01\/google-privacy-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> The Washington Post. \u201cNo one is safe from this.<i>\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Google did not respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
