Jim Jordan, ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, wrote in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/2022-07-27-JDJ-to-Wray-re-domestic-violent-extremists32.pdf\">letter<\/a>\u00a0to FBI Director Christopher Wray. \u201cFrom recent protected disclosures, we have learned that FBI officials are pressuring agents to reclassify cases as \u2018domestic violent extremism\u2019 even if the cases do not meet the criteria for such a classification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DVE pertains to someone in the U.S. \u201cwithout direction or inspiration from a foreign terrorist group or other foreign power who seeks to further political or social goals wholly or in part through unlawful acts of force or violence,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/file-repository\/fbi-dhs-domestic-terrorism-strategic-report.pdf\/view\">according<\/a> to the FBI. AFP PHOTO\/Mandel NGAN (Photo credit should read MANDEL NGAN\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cGiven the narrative pushed by the Biden Administration that domestic violent extremism is the \u2018greatest threat\u2019 facing our country the revelation that the FBI may be artificially padding domestic terrorism data is scandalous,\u201d Jordan also said.<\/p>\n<p>FBI employees are not finding enough DVE and are being pushed by superiors to use minor evidence to reclassify cases, according to a whistleblower who allegedly spoke to Jordan and other Republicans. The FBI\u2019s Counterterrorism Division Director and another official \u201chave pressured agents to move cases into the DVE category to hit self-created performance metrics,\u201d said Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>The metrics are used to dish out \u201cawards and promotions,\u201d said a whistleblower to Jordan and Republicans. The new allegations are relevant given how the FBI has become politicized, said the Republican, who wrote a <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/press-release\/whistleblowers-fbi-purging-employees-who-hold-conservative-views\/\">letter<\/a> to Wray in June outlining whistleblower claims that the FBI is \u201cpurging\u201d conservative employees.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan is demanding the FBI provide the number of DVE investigations from January 2020 to present and the number of \u201cConfidential Human Sources\u201d that have contributed to DVE reports since that same time, among other documents.
