Chip Roy called Democratic New York Rep. Jerry Nadler \u201cdumb.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>Verdict: False<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence to suggest Roy made such a remark about Nadler. The video included in the post does not show the alleged remark.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Roy recently introduced legislation in the House to lift the mandatory retirement age of airline pilots from 65 to 67 in an attempt to correct airline staff shortages, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-senator-proposes-raising-mandatory-commercial-pilot-retirement-age-67-2022-07-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>. Prior to that, he was the focus of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/rep-chip-roy-rages-mexican-president-over-beto-orourke-endorsement-1725181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thetexan.news\/congressman-roy-blasts-mexican-presidents-criticism-of-texas-border-security-you-can-meet-us-in-san-jacinto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attention<\/a> after criticizing Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador for allegedly planning to endorse Democrat Beto O\u2019Rourke in Texas\u2019 upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Texas_gubernatorial_election,_2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gubernatorial election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a widely shared Facebook video claims he recently called a fellow congressman dumb.\u00a0\u201c\u2018You\u2019re So Dumb\u2019 \u2013 Brave Chip Roy Mocks Jerry Nadler During Jan. 6 Committee Hearing,\u201d reads the video\u2019s caption. The video shows several clips of Nadler and Roy speaking on the House floor.<\/p>\n<p>There is, however, no evidence that Roy called Nadler \u201cdumb.\u201d There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=you%27re+so+dumb+chip+roy+quote+&amp;sxsrf=ALiCzsZWyqts8NoyqNRxfSjt7bg2pMSDag%3A1658863410886&amp;ei=Mj_gYtLQNf-JptQPqb6RsA8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjSsdjio5f5AhX_hIkEHSlfBPYQ4dUDCA8&amp;uact=5&amp;oq=you%27re+so+dumb+chip+roy+quote+&amp;gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAM6BAgjECdKBAhBGABKBAhGGABQAFiDGWDgGWgAcAB4AIABqQOIAdAMkgEJOC4wLjEuMC4ymAEAoAEBwAEB&amp;sclient=gws-wiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no credible news reports<\/a> suggesting Roy made such a comment about Nadler or any other member of Congress. No such statement appears on Roy\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/roy.house.gov\/media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">congressional website<\/a> or on his verified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/chiproytx\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100058193224221\/search\/?q=jerry%20nadler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=jerry%20nadler%20(from%3ARepChipRoy)&amp;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accounts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, neither Roy nor Nadler serve on the Jan. 6 committee, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/about\/membership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">committee\u2019s website<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/07\/20\/fact-check-jim-jordan-ocasio-cortez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: FACT CHECK: Did Jim Jordan Tell Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez To \u2018Go Back To Bartending?\u2019)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The nearly 13-minute video includes a clip of Nadler <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=j8Dn3eSnEm4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commenting<\/a> during a House Judiciary Committee markup hearing in June that Roy endorsed \u201cturning guns on American troops.\u201d A second clip shows both congressmen sparring over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KC1h6eV-E54\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defunding the police<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-caOar40d38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">federal spending<\/a> during a different House Judiciary Committee hearing last month. Neither of the men calls the other \u201cdumb\u201d at any point.<\/p>\n<p>Another clip features Roy sharply criticizing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tpT6pXh3PL0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">government spending<\/a> on the House floor. In the final clip, Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hucjh8MNJNU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">questions<\/a> U.S. Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth about the army combat fitness test.
