Doug Lamborn, will introduce legislation Thursday evening prohibiting states that create abortion access funds from receiving funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).<\/p>\n<p>Several blue states, including <a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/featured\/2022\/07\/gov-jared-polis-issues-executive-order-protecting-out-of-state-patients-seeking-abortions\/\">Colorado<\/a>, New York, and California, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/05\/13\/oregon-new-york-funding-abortion\/\">increased<\/a> funding for abortion clinics shortly before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Other states, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/04\/30\/connecticut-bill-safe-haven-abortion-providers-roe\">Connecticut<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/nj-is-now-an-abortion-safe-haven-for-those-from-other-states-heres-what-that-means.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey<\/a>, have passed laws prohibiting law enforcement from cooperating with other states investigating abortion services.<\/p>\n<p>Lamborn\u2019s bill, the Preventing Abortion Sanctuaries Act, targets blue states that create abortion access funds for the purpose of transporting abortion seekers from states where the procedure is outlawed. The legislation defines an abortion sanctuary as a state that \u201c<span class=\"a\">est<span class=\"l7\">ablishe<span class=\"l8\">s a fund or commis<span class=\"l6\">sion (or <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">similar entity) for the purpose of providing di<\/span><span class=\"a\">rect financial and logistical support to individ<\/span><span class=\"a\">uals traveling to such State to receive an abor<\/span><span class=\"a\">tion\u201d or \u201c<\/span><span class=\"a\">has in e<span class=\"l6\">ffect laws that prohibit the en<\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">forcement of a law of another State that au<\/span><span class=\"a\">thorizes a person to bring a civil action against <\/span><span class=\"a\">a person or entity that\u201d performs, receives, or \u201caids and abets\u201d an abortion.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The bill also names states that do not have laws including \u201c<span class=\"a\">gestational protections for an unborn <\/span><span class=\"a\">child.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Read the bill here:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"View Preventing Abortion Sanctuaries Act on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/584276270\/Preventing-Abortion-Sanctuaries-Act#from_embed\">Preventing Abortion Sanctuaries Act<\/a> by <a title=\"View Michael Ginsberg&#039;s profile on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/user\/548087574\/Michael-Ginsberg#from_embed\">Michael Ginsberg<\/a> on Scribd<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am greatly concerned that liberal-governed states, such as Colorado and California, are attempting to enact anti-life policies which include using taxpayer dollars to fund the travel and procedural expenses of women crossing state lines to receive an abortion,\u201d Lamborn said in a statement to the Daily Caller. \u201cAbortion is not healthcare and hardworking taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize the taking of innocent life no matter what state they live in. I thank my colleagues in Congress for joining me in this crucial fight to protect the unborn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/29\/government-abortion-clinics-banned-federal-land-hyde-amendment-democrats\/\">Hyde Amendment<\/a> prohibits the federal government from using any taxpayer money to fund abortions, unless those procedures are necessary to protect the life of the mother. Some Republicans have expressed <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/14\/house-republicans-buddy-carter-elise-stefanik-legislation-prevent-federal-funding-abortion-transportation\/\">concern<\/a> that the Biden administration could attempt to circumvent the rule by offering travel vouchers to women who would seek abortions across state lines.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/30\/democrats-demand-national-emergency-abortion-joe-biden\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Dems Demand Biden Declare National Health Emergency Over Abortion)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote in a concurring opinion to Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Clinic that states may not punish women who seek abortions out-of-state.<\/p>\n<p>Privately-funded abortion access funds are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/health-shots\/2022\/07\/25\/1112938261\/the-role-of-independent-funds-to-help-people-access-abortion-is-growing?ft=nprml&#038;f=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common<\/a>.
