Carlson told Schmidt \u2014 an intern with The Daily Wire \u2014 that he started noticing 15 years ago that his children\u2019s friends \u2014 especially boys \u2014 were not doing well, and that trend continued beyond their teenage years. After saying that the greatest \u201cachievement\u201d a person can do is have kids and encouraging more baby-making, the Fox News host argued that young Americans should stop shirking off their duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe other thing you should do is not delay adulthood,\u201d he advised.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to get lecturer-y, because I am 53 and that\u2019s one of the casualties of getting middle-aged, <em>And another thing! <\/em>Thank god I have my job so I can do it for a living,\u201d he said with a laugh. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, you see these people, kids, young people \u2014 kids in their early 20s, particularly boys \u2014 like to run from responsibility. No, responsibility is joy,\u201d he stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carlson warned that material pleasures will always leave one wanting more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no deep satisfaction in eating french toast in a hotel room, you know?\u201d he continued. \u201cLike, vacations mean nothing. Where you find satisfaction is through achievement. And achievement comes through commitment and responsibility. So, my advice to young people \u2014\u00a0 particularly young men \u2014 is just dive face-first into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent figures indicate that Carlson\u2019s observations are backed by public polling. According to a survey <a href=\"https:\/\/meetfabric.com\/blog\/when-do-we-feel-like-an-adult-new-survey-shares-signs-of-adulting\">conducted<\/a> by One Poll and Fabric, nearly three in five Americans \u201cwere afraid of taking on \u2018adulting\u2019 tasks before living on their own, and a similar number of people wished they were better prepared to take on the responsibilities (56%).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson \u2014 known for his outspokenness against America\u2019s focus on college degrees \u2014 also told Schmidt that people in his generation should ditch the university altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrop out of college,\u201d he said definitively. \u201cCollege is ridiculous unless you\u2019re moving towards some very specialized degree that you can only get in college if you want to be a veterinarian or a physicist or something but if you\u2019re in humanities \u2026 You know I can give you a list of 100 books, you can find it on the internet and you\u2019ll be better educated than you would be at whatever stupid college you go to.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd B, get married and, you know, choose wisely, but don\u2019t overthink it,\u201d he cautioned.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. marriage rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jec.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/republicans\/2020\/4\/marriage-rate-blog-test\">have been steadily declining<\/a> since the 1980s. The Daily Caller founder explained that part of the beauty in a marriage is that men and women are different from each other, which in turn forces the individual spouse to mature and change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople overthink it \u2026 If you\u2019re compatible with someone, and you can smell that? You can make it work,\u201d he said regarding relations between the two sexes. \u201cAnd by the way, it\u2019s never easy because men and women fundamentally don\u2019t understand each other. That\u2019s the whole joy in it. That\u2019s why marriage makes you grow because you don\u2019t really understand the other person so you have to try every day to decipher what that person\u2019s saying.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As for matrimony, the test for deciding if you should marry somebody is pretty simple and can lead to a life of adventure, he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want to do something crazy? Marry some chick who you think is nice and hot. Those are, I\u00a0 think, the two main qualifications;\u00a0 Someone you\u2019re attracted to because romance is the heart of marriage, that is true, and someone who you think is kind. I mean, my personal, you know the advice I always give to people who work for me is, if you\u2019re assessing whether you want to live with a woman for the rest of your life \u2014 when she gets mad at you \u2026 does she yell at you? Or does she cry? If she cries, marry her. If she yells at you, don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson also pleaded with Americans to avoid believing that Instagram illustrates the excitement that life has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHave more children than you can afford, take a job you\u2019re not qualified for, like go balls out. You just go balls out,\u201d he added at one point during the interview. \u201cI don\u2019t know what everyone is waiting for, you know? Have some adventure in your life, do something crazy, I mean it. And I don\u2019t mean, you know, go to Bali.
