Chuck Grassley, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/grassley_to_justice_deptfbipoliticalbiasfollowup.pdf\">wrote a letter Monday<\/a> to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/20\/justice-department-watchdog-refers-fbi-agents-anti-trump-hatch-act-special-counsel\/\">(\u2018Potential Violations Of The Hatch Act\u2019: DOJ Inspector General Refers Top FBI Agent To Special Counsel\u2019s Office)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FBI supervisory intelligence analyst Brian Auten \u201copened an assessment\u201d in August 2020 to \u201cimproperly discredit negative information\u201d about Hunter, resulting in the ceasing of \u201cinvestigative activity,\u201d said Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf these allegations are true and accurate, the Justice Department and FBI are \u2013 and have been \u2013 institutionally corrupted to their very core to the point in which the United States Congress and the American people will have no confidence in the equal application of the law,\u201d said Grassley in his letter. \u201cAttorney General Garland and Director Wray, simply put, based on the allegations that I\u2019ve received from numerous whistleblowers, you have systemic and existential problems within your agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department\u2019s (DOJ) investigation into Hunter Biden\u2019s foreign and domestic business dealings has neared a \u201ccritical juncture,\u201d CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/07\/20\/politics\/hunter-biden-investigation-critical-juncture\/index.html\">reported<\/a> on July 20, and is more focused on the Biden son\u2019s alleged involvement in a 2018 gun <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/29\/hunter-bidens-involvement-in-firearm-incident-raises-important-legal-questions\/\">incident<\/a> and alleged tax violations.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7484828\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7484828\" class=\"wp-image-7484828 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/GettyImages-84379588-scaled-1.jpeg\" alt=\"WASHINGTON, D.C. - JANUARY 20: Vice-President Joe Biden and sons Hunter Biden (L) and Beau Biden walk in the Inaugural Parade January 20, 2009 in Washington, DC. (Photo by David McNew\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Auten\u2019s assessment of evidence in connection with Hunter Biden led to FBI investigators communicating with agents probing the Biden son\u2019s dealings \u2014 who placed findings \u201cin a restricted access sub-file\u201d in September 2020, according to Grassley.\u00a0Republican senators have been repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/doj-blocks-gop-effort-answers-hunter-biden-investigation\">stonewalled<\/a> by the DOJ after seeking information on the Hunter Biden investigation by the U.S. Attorney\u2019s office in Delaware.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2020, then-FBI agent Timothy Thibault allegedly \u201cordered closed\u201d an \u201cavenue of additional derogatory Hunter Biden reporting,\u201d said Grassley. Thibault \u201cordered the matter closed without providing a valid reason as required\u201d and the FBI \u201csubsequently attempted to improperly mark the matter in FBI systems so that it could not be opened in the future,\u201d the senator claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Thibault was the subject of a June <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/20\/justice-department-watchdog-refers-fbi-agents-anti-trump-hatch-act-special-counsel\/\">DOJ Inspector General<\/a> report related to \u201cpotential violations of the Hatch Act\u201d for his promotion of anti-Trump social media after Grassley urged the DOJ in May to probe the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for Hunter Biden did not respond to a request for comment, nor did the DOJ or FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
