Other Florida cities, such as Cape Coral and North Port, are also experiencing surges in net migration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTampa is still attracting a lot of out-of-state homebuyers, coming from places like New York, who can get more for their money in Florida,\u201d Eric Auciello, a Redfin manager in Tampa, explained in the report. \u201cThe spike in mortgage rates has priced some buyers out of the market, but it has also helped ease competition and curb bidding wars between locals and out of towners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida saw the nation\u2019s largest net domestic migration between July 2020 and July 2021, with more than 220,000 people moving to the state, according to the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2021\/2021-population-estimates.html\">Census Bureau<\/a>. Florida was followed by Texas and Arizona, while New York, California, and Illinois led the nation in terms of numeric decline.<\/p>\n<p>According to Redfin, higher living expenses and surging real estate prices are significant factors behind Americans\u2019 decisions to leave large metropolitan areas. While the typical home price in places such as San Francisco and San Jose is now more than $1.5 million, even as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/home-prices-mortgage-rates-expected-to-stay-elevated-through-next-year\">mortgage rates<\/a> surge above 5%, trends such as flexible remote work are driving urban residents to find more affordable cities.<\/p>\n<p>Quality of life is also a salient factor behind Americans\u2019 relocation decisions. In New York City, monthly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bank-of-america-warns-employees-to-dress-down-avoid-rise-in-new-york-city-assaults\">felony assaults<\/a> had risen 15% year-over-year by the end of 2021, while homicides had increased by 42% over two years. Meanwhile, Chicago recorded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/lightfoots-chicago-records-797-homicides-in-2021-most-among-u-s-cities\">797 homicides<\/a> in 2021 \u2014 the highest of any other U.S. city.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, several multibillion-dollar businesses \u2014 including hedge fund Citadel, construction machinery maker Caterpillar, and airplane manufacturer Boeing \u2014 are respectively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/illinois-governor-takes-parting-shot-at-states-richest-man-for-moving-to-florida\">moving from the Chicago area<\/a> to Miami, Florida; Irving, Texas; and Arlington, Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf people aren\u2019t safe here, they\u2019re not going to live here,\u201d Ken Griffin, the founder of Citadel and formerly the richest man in Illinois, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/wealthiest-man-in-illinois-moves-his-business-from-chicago-to-miami-amid-feud-with-democratic-leadership\">remarked<\/a> earlier this year. \u201cI\u2019ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I\u2019ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work. Countless issues of burglary.
