I\u2019ve got women and children there,\u201d Whitehead <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/lamor-whitehead-brooklyn-bishop-robbed-at-gunpoint-while-delivering-sermon-on-livestream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the robbers, according to CBS New York.<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>\u201cAs I got down, one went to my wife and took all her jewelry and had the gun in front of my 8-month-old baby\u2019s face,\u201d Whitehead added. \u201cTook off my bishop\u2019s ring, my wedding band and took off my bishop\u2019s chain, and then I had chains underneath my robe and he started tapping my neck to see if anything else,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many of you have lost your faith because you saw somebody else die?\u201d Whitehead asked during his message shortly before the intruders interrupted the service.<\/p>\n<p>The CBS New York report noted that about 100 people were in attendance during the service when the armed men entered the facility. No one was reportedly injured during the robbery.<\/p>\n<p>The reported value of the stolen jewelry was claimed as approximately $400,000, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/07\/24\/bandits-rob-brooklyn-bishop-during-live-streamed-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to a report by the New York Post. The jewelry included items taken from Whitehead, his wife, and possibly others in the congregation, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>The church\u2019s services are typically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LeadersofTomorrowIM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">streamed<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCjS6yRiweSfZfHHIddXo15Q\/videos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made available<\/a> on YouTube and Facebook. The Sunday service involving the incident is not currently available, but video clips of the robbery can be found online.<\/p>\n<p>Whitehead said he believes that the robbers targeted him after he helped turn in the suspect wanted in a deadly subway shooting in May, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The church leader\u2019s work extends beyond his congregation to the local Brooklyn community.<\/p>\n<p>The bishop founded Leaders of Tomorrow International in 2013. Whitehead\u2019s biography <a href=\"https:\/\/lotichurches.org\/meet-our-pastor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">states<\/a> he \u201cwas responsible for the Brooklyn Borough President Eric L Adams\u2019 youth division in Brooklyn NYC representing over 1 million young people in the borough of Brooklyn.\u201d The bishop also mentioned being a previous \u201cmentee\u201d of Adams when the now-mayor served as the Brooklyn borough president.<\/p>\n<p>CBS News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/lamor-whitehead-brooklyn-bishop-robbed-gunpoint-sermon-livestream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the office of Mayor Adams released a statement regarding the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one in this city should be the victim of armed robbery, let alone our faith leaders and congregants worshiping in a House of God,\u201d Adams said. \u201cThe NYPD is investigating this crime and will work tirelessly to bring the criminals involved to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams has pushed for stronger gun control legislation since taking office. In January, the mayor called on the federal government to help \u201cstop the flow of guns\u201d after two NYPD officers were shot, including one fatally, in Harlem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an attack on the children and families of this city, and we are not going to win this battle by dividing lines between us.
