Leaders of these committees scheduled a call with Hulu to discuss the company\u2019s concerns, but Hulu canceled the call and stalled in later communications about the ads.<\/p>\n<p>The ads Hulu rejected were run by Disney and by a local Disney-affiliated ABC affiliate, according to The Washington Post.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hulu?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Hulu<\/a> is rejecting ads talking about the GOP\u2019s record on abortion, gun safety, and other key issues leading up to the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>Hulu\u2019s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kqFGFkAjoJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/kqFGFkAjoJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Democratic Governors (@DemGovs) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DemGovs\/status\/1551579803366612995?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 25, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hulu has a policy of not running controversial content in ads and, unlike broadcast television networks, is not bound by federal law to give equal opportunities to political parties in its advertisements, according to The Washington Post. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/10\/nicholas-roske-brett-kavanaugh-supreme-court-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Democratic<\/a> Party leaders and candidates criticized Hulu\u2019s ad policy as a threat to democracy and claimed Hulu is blocking them from mobilizing young voters over the issues they care most about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo not discuss these topics in my campaign ad is to not address the most important issues facing the United States,\u201d Suraj Patel, a Democratic Congressional candidate in New York City, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22084585-hulu-disney-letter-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> in a letter to the CEOs of Disney and Hulu. \u201cYour ban on mobilization messaging has a perverse effect on Democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hulu rejected one of Patel\u2019s ads which mentioned abortion, gun violence, climate change and the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots because the topics were too sensitive, according to his letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHulu\u2019s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country,\u201d the executive directors of the DSCC, DCCC and DGA told The Washington Post. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/20\/democrats-abortion-black-voters-kamala-harris-joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Dems Tone Down Pro-Abortion Rhetoric To Win Over Black Voters)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disney did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
