In <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/10\/16\/tesla-pays-sec-settlement-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October<\/a> 2018, Musk and Tesla were each fined $20 million dollars and the two parties agreed that all tweets by Musk about the company must be pre-approved by Tesla lawyers following a tweet Musk made about taking the company private at \u201c$420 a share.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/08\/07\/elon-musk-tesla-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Tesla Suspends Trading After Elon Musk\u2019s Cryptic Tweet On The Company\u2019s Future)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Am considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1026872652290379776?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 7, 2018<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Musk also insisted that he had the \u201cfunding secured\u201d to take Tesla private. This led to significant volatility in Tesla stock, which caused some shareholders, short-sellers in particular, to lose money, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-tesla-musk-stock-options\/tesla-call-options-soar-on-musk-tweet-short-sellers-hit-idUSKBN1KS23A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Investors filed a class action lawsuit, and a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/casetext.com\/case\/in-re-tesla-inc-sec-litig-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found<\/a> in April that Musk knowingly made a false statement when he tweeted that the funding had been secured.
