Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/GettyImages-1289255437.jpg?w=1200&#038;h=800&#038;ixlib=react-9.0.3\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p>A professor of psychology and neuroscience at Columbia University in New York who supports decriminalizing drugs recently wrote a book about detailing how he has taken small doses of hard drugs such as heroin.<\/p>\n<p>Carl Hart, 54, who chairs the psychology department at Columbia, writes about his drug experiences in his new book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Drug-Use-Grown-Ups-Chasing-Liberty-ebook\/dp\/B088QLTSQN\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=138HOI1FKE68X&#038;dchild=1&#038;keywords=drug+use+for+grownups&#038;qid=1613760199&#038;sprefix=drug+use+for+%2Caps%2C164&#038;sr=8-1&#038;tag=nypost-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\" data-ga-event=\"{\"category\":\"affiliate ecommerce click\",\"action\":\"amazon\",\"label\":\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Drug-Use-Grown-Ups-Chasing-Liberty-ebook\/dp\/B088QLTSQN\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=138HOI1FKE68X&#038;dchild=1&#038;keywords=drug+use+for+grownups&#038;qid=1613760199&#038;sprefix=drug+use+for+%2Caps%2C164&#038;sr=8-1&#038;tag=nypost-20\"}\" data-ml-dynamic=\"true\" data-ml-dynamic-type=\"sl\" data-orig-url=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Drug-Use-Grown-Ups-Chasing-Liberty-ebook\/dp\/B088QLTSQN\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=138HOI1FKE68X&#038;dchild=1&#038;keywords=drug+use+for+grownups&#038;qid=1613760199&#038;sprefix=drug+use+for+%2Caps%2C164&#038;sr=8-1&#038;tag=nypost-20\" data-ml-id=\"0\" data-ml=\"true\" data-xid=\"fr1613934062840dfb\">Drug Use for Grown-ups: Chasing Liberty in the Land of Fear<\/a>\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/02\/19\/columbia-prof-i-snort-heroin-regularly-for-work-life-balance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite experiencing withdrawal symptoms\u00a0\u201c12 to 16 hours after the last dose,\u201d Hart still maintains there are upsides to taking such substances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere aren\u2019t many things in life that I enjoy more than a few lines by the fireplace at the end of the day,\u201d Hart wrote about heroin, which he said leaves him \u201crefreshed\u201d and \u201cprepared to face another day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy heroin use is as recreational as my alcohol use,\u201d Hart further said. \u201cLike vacation, sex, and the arts, heroin is one of the tools that I use to maintain my work-life balance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hart has also taken MDMA or ecstasy, which he said gives him\u00a0\u201cintense feelings of pleasure, gratitude and energy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I\u2019m rolling, I just want to breathe deeply and enjoy it,\u201d he added. \u201cThe simple act of breathing can be extremely pleasurable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other drugs he has experimented with include methamphetamine and \u201cbath salts,\u201d which he described as \u201cunequivocally wonderful\u201d which make him feel \u201ceuphoric, energetic, clearheaded and highly social \u2026 niiiiiice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hart said during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/columbia-professor-carl-hart-legalize-drugs-heroin-for-grown-ups-2021-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Insider<\/a> that his family supports his drug use: \u201cThe most important thing we have emphasized as parents is: Just try and live like the person that you think you are \u2014 a moral, compassionate, global citizen. My family would expect me to stand up on behalf of the people who have been castigated\u201d for their drug usage.<\/p>\n<p>Hart admitted his drug use because he wants to advocate for decriminalizing the possession of recreational drugs. His book argues \u201cthat the demonization of drug use \u2013 not drugs themselves \u2013 [has] been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country\u2019s enduring structural racism,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/534657\/drug-use-for-grown-ups-by-dr-carl-l-hart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to the publisher<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to decriminalize drugs have gained momentum in the U.S. As The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-passes-bill-to-decriminalize-marijuana-as-more-states-loosen-pot-restrictions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The U.S. House of Representatives voted to decriminalize marijuana on Friday, passing a bill that would remove the drug from the list of federally controlled substances, expunge federal pot-related convictions for lower-level offenses, and allow for the regulation of legal cannabis sales.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act was approved mostly along party lines by a vote of 228 to 164. Only five Republicans supported the bill, while just six Democrats opposed it.
