We wish to make this very clear to Google and the other market participants that it dwarfs: If you fail to resist this political pressure, we will act swiftly to protect American consumers from this dangerous axis of corporate and government power,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican leaders warned that they would investigate any attempt to make changes to limit pro-life pregnancy center search results. This included \u201cthorough investigations\u201d to determine violations of antitrust laws, investigating potential \u201creligious discrimination,\u201d and \u201ccommon carriage statutes\u201d to protect consumers, according to the letter.<\/p>\n<p>The letter concluded with the lawmakers arguing they will uphold \u201cviewpoint diversity, free expression, and the freedom of religion for all Americans,\u201d requesting answers from Google\u2019s CEO within 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also responded to a message last month to Google from Democratic lawmakers that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.warner.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/5\/6\/5698c724-cc0d-42f6-bbb6-b05e472b4564\/26F26BB28841042A7931EEC58AC80E08.anti-abortion-letter-to-google-final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> the search engine to remove \u201canti-abortion \u2018fake clinics&#8217;\u201d from its search results. The letter, sent June 17, came one week prior to the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling that overturned <em>Roe v. Wade\u00a0<\/em>and returned laws regarding abortion to individual states.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to arguing for the removal of pro-life pregnancy centers from search results, the Democratic lawmakers suggested an alternative that \u201cat the very least\u201d the pro-life services should be \u201cappropriately labeled.\u201d The letter also urged Google to take down ads from crisis pregnancy centers for organizations using Google Ads.<\/p>\n<p>In an abortion-related policy change earlier this month, Google announced that it would automatically delete user data for visits to certain facilities, including abortion clinics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the places people visit \u2014 including medical facilities like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, fertility centers, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, cosmetic surgery clinics, and others \u2014 can be particularly personal,\u201d the company <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/technology\/safety-security\/protecting-peoples-privacy-on-health-topics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cToday, we\u2019re announcing that if our systems identify that someone has visited one of these places, we will delete these entries from Location History soon after they visit. This change will take effect in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Google also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/map-doxing-conservative-justices-violates-googles-terms-of-service-platform-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> actions following the Supreme Court ruling leak in May. A group called Ruth Sent Us publicly shared the addresses of the personal homes of Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch.
