On Friday, Judge Mitch Perry extended his June order which blocked the state from enforcing its so-called \u201ctrigger law\u201d that bans abortions after six weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling claimed the law would violate residents right to privacy and self determination. Finding significant state constitutional questions about the two laws, Perry ordered them blocked until the dispute is resolved at trial. A trial date has not been set.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cOnce again, the courts have rightly stopped Attorney General Daniel Cameron\u2019s relentless efforts to ban abortion, which would have devastating consequences for Kentuckians,\u201d said a Planned Parenthood spokesperson. \u201cNo one should be forced to carry a pregnancy against their will or flee the state to access essential health care. Kentuckians have a right to abortion under the state constitution and we\u2019ll continue fighting for that right so that every person in the commonwealth can get the care they need.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: A Kentucky state court has granted our request to block enforcement of abortion bans as our lawsuit continues.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion remains legal in Kentucky and people can still get an abortion in Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ACLU of Kentucky (@ACLUofKY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ACLUofKY\/status\/1550490939738710020?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 22, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Cameron, a Republican who has been seeking to enforce the two laws and other abortion legislation enacted by the GOP-controlled General Assembly, issued a statement that he was \u201cdisappointed\u201d with Perry\u2019s ruling and planned to appeal.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><strong>\u201cThe judge\u2019s suggestion that Kentucky\u2019s constitution contains a right to abortion is not grounded in the text and history of our state\u2019s governing document,\u201d Cameron voiced. \u201cWe will continue our steadfast defense of these bipartisan laws that represent the commonwealth\u2019s commitment to the lives of the unborn.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"caas-readmore caas-readmore-collapse\">\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Perry\u2019s order found that \u201cthe fundamental right for a woman to control her own body free from government interference\u201d outweighs the state\u2019s interest in protecting a fetus before it is viable.
