Bennie Thompson, said in a July 14 letter that he would be willing to testify in Bannon\u2019s trial if he handed over documents the Select Committee has requested for over a year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/07\/20\/judge-vows-bannon-trial-wont-be-political-circus-00046859\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe July 9, 2022, outreach to the Select Committee by you on Mr. Bannon\u2019s behalf does not change the fact that Mr. Bannon failed to follow that process and failed to comply with the select committee\u2019s subpoena prior to the House referral of the contempt resolution concerning Mr Bannon\u2019s defiance of the subpoena,\u201d Thompson wrote, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>Kristin Amerling, the chief counsel of the committee, said Bannon would not turn over any documents despite his sudden willingness to cooperate, Politico reported. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/16\/biden-doj-prosecute-trump-officials-subpoenas-jan-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Biden Says DOJ Should Prosecute Former Trump Officials Defying Jan. 6 Subpoenas, Prompts Damage Control From Admin)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Justice Department prosecutors warned that Bannon would politicize the trial, the outlet reported. His defense attorney, Evan Corcoran, criticized the House of Representatives for playing a political game against Bannon.<\/p>\n<p>The former White House official made similar comments about the committee outside the courthouse Tuesday, claiming the committee lacked guts for not testifying and called Thompson a \u201cdisgrace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He accused Thompson, without evidence, of lying about a COVID-19 diagnosis while talking to reporters Wednesday, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy is Bennie Thompson not here defending his committee, the show trial, the Moscow show trial of the 1930s? Why is he not here in person?\u201d the former Trump adviser said.<\/p>\n<p>Bannon initially attempted to assert executive privilege when <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/trump-january-6-riot-meadows-bannon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subpoenaed<\/a> by Congress in September 2021. The House, including eight Republicans, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/house-vote-steve-bannon-contempt-justice-department-criminal-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">voted<\/a> to hold Bannon in contempt.
