He faces between 60 days and two years in jail and a fine between $200 and $200,000, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/stephen-k-bannon-indicted-contempt-congress\">according<\/a> to the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A federal jury found former Trump adviser Steve Bannon guilty of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack, per <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kpolantz?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@kpolantz<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tierney_Megan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Tierney_Megan<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Manu Raju (@mkraju) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mkraju\/status\/1550553908321439746?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 22, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>District Court Judge Carl Nichols <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/07\/11\/judge-shreds-bannon-defenses-ahead-of-contempt-trial-00045191\">ruled<\/a> that Bannon and his attorneys would not be allowed to present an executive privilege defense. He also rejected Bannon\u2019s motion for a three month trial delay. As a result, Bannon and his team did not present a defense. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/16\/biden-doj-prosecute-trump-officials-subpoenas-jan-6\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Biden Says DOJ Should Prosecute Former Trump Officials Defying Jan. 6 Subpoenas, Prompts Damage Control From Admin)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bannon first attempted to assert executive privilege when <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/23\/trump-january-6-riot-meadows-bannon\/\">subpoenaed<\/a> by Congress in September 2021, but the committee and President Joe Biden rejected his arguments. Eight Republicans voted with all 221 Democrats in the House of Representatives to hold Bannon in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/house-vote-steve-bannon-contempt-justice-department-criminal-charges\/\">contempt<\/a>. The House of Representatives also voted to hold former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress, but the Department of Justice has not yet brought charges.<\/p>\n<p>Bannon was last a White House official in 2017.
