The idea is that prices rise and fall based on what they would fetch on the scalper market. So if a reseller can get $5,000 for a great seat on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bruce-springsteen-freed-of-drunk-driving-charges-slapped-with-500-fine\">Springsteen<\/a>\u2019s upcoming tour, Ticketmaster will simply undercut the secondary market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimple rule: if you\u2019re the kind of person who is in a Bruce Springsteen song, you absolutely can\u2019t afford to see him perform,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HeywoodFloyd10\/status\/1550305583663824896?s=20&#038;t=kXB-cpdK3uMsecTZwS_4JQ\">tweeted user Heywood Floyd<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is all going to blow up. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ticketmaster?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Ticketmaster<\/a> say this is to prevent scalping. IT IS OFFICIAL SCALPING.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 WMD (@rain_again) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rain_again\/status\/1549776829023756295?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 20, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tickets for Springsteen and his E-Street Band\u2019s 2023 tour went on sale Wednesday, and Ticketmaster quickly labeled many floor and lower-level seats as\u00a0\u201cOfficial Platinum Seats.\u201d That \u201cenables market-based pricing (adjusting prices according to supply and demand) for live event tickets, similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ticketmaster.com\/s\/article\/What-are-Official-Platinum-Seats?language=en_US\">Ticketmaster\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prices for mid-floor tickets quickly climbed to as much as $5,000 apiece, with \u201ccheap seats\u201d bringing in as much as $1,000.<\/p>\n<p>For fans of the New Jersey rocker, who built his brand on immortalizing the downtrodden and working class in classics like \u201cJungleland\u201d and \u201cBorn to Run,\u201d charging the price of a used pickup truck for a pair of tickets is sacrilege.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpringsteen and Ticketmaster playing fans for fools,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RyanPanton\/status\/1550213478060724225?s=20&#038;t=kXB-cpdK3uMsecTZwS_4JQ\">tweeted Ryan Panton<\/a>. \u201cThey see the outrage from \u2018platinum tickets\u2019 and rebrand them all as \u2018verified resale.\u2019 The joke continues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But E-Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt told fans not to blame \u201cThe Boss\u201d for a pricing scheme that is out of his control.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have nothing whatsoever to do with the price of tickets,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StevieVanZandt\/status\/1549800932476682241?s=20&#038;t=kXB-cpdK3uMsecTZwS_4JQ\">Van Zandt tweeted<\/a> at a fan who complained about the exorbitant prices. \u201cNothing. Nada. Niente. Bubkis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Wave band Crowded House has forbidden promoters of its concerts from using the system, and Kid Rock, who keeps his ticket prices at $20, has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/kid-rock-on-his-20-tour-and-dumbass-republicans-243987\/\">railed against Ticketmaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rockers Pearl Jam <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pearl-jam-taking-on-ticketmaster-67440\/\">took a stand<\/a> against Ticketmaster years ago, accusing the promoter of creating a monopoly by buying up competitors and then charging outrageous prices. But earlier this year, the band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketnews.com\/2022\/03\/pearl-jam-fans-furious-over-band-charging-scalper-ticket-prices\/\">employed dynamic pricing<\/a> for its current tour.
