Right? I think what matters is we prepared for this moment,\u201d White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on July 21, shortly after it was announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-tests-positive-for-covid-19-white-house_4612708.html\">Biden tested positive for the illness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An antigen test from Thursday morning returned positive and a Polymerase Chain Reaction test confirmed the result, according to Dr. Kevin O\u2019Connor, Biden\u2019s doctor.<\/p>\n<p>Biden reported feeling \u201cmild symptoms,\u201d primarily a runny nose and fatigue, which began on Wednesday evening, the doctor added.<\/p>\n<p>Biden had a \u201crestless sleep\u201d and a dry cough, along with a runny nose and fatigue, which triggered the testing, Jean-Pierre said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know the exact, like, hour that he developed\u2014that he became aware of his symptoms,\u201d Dr. Ashish Jha, coordinator of the White House COVID-19 response, told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Biden spent time with others before testing positive. On Wednesday, for example, he was accompanied by multiple members of Congress and White House staff like Jean-Pierre on Air Force One while traveling to Massachusetts. He met with\u00a0Olena Zelenska, Ukraine\u2019s first lady, this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re starting the process\u201d of figuring out who was in close contact with Biden and communicating with them, Jean-Pierre said.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those in contact with the president took tests, which came back negative, spokespeople said. They included Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.).<\/p>\n<h2>Isolating From Others, Including Wife<\/h2>\n<p>First Lady Jill Biden tested negative for COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m on the road in Detroit today, but I spoke to Joe earlier and he\u2019s feeling fine, just experiencing a few mild symptoms,\u201d the first lady wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>She reportedly planned on staying at the family\u2019s home in Wilmington, Delaware while her husband isolated for five\u00a0days at the White House, in accordance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n<p>The guidance advises people who tested positive to remain apart from others and, if they cannot, to wear a mask at all times.<\/p>\n<p>Biden was not wearing a mask in a picture disseminated by the White House later Thursday. He appeared to be within six feet of, or in close contact with, another person.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 is primarily a disease that resolves on its own, but can cause hospitalization and even death in a small number of cases. Because of Biden\u2019s advanced age, 79, he is considered at high-risk of progression to severe disease.
