There is no evidence to suggest the Irish Independent published such an article.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>North Ireland experienced the hottest day of the year on Monday, with temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius (about 88 degrees Fahrenheit), according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-northern-ireland-62199896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. The hot weather may be part of a wider heat wave currently affecting Europe, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/20\/world\/europe\/uk-europe-heat-wave-fires.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook claims the Irish Independent recently reported on the dying words of a man who allegedly realized on his deathbed the danger of climate change. \u201cI wish I\u2019d taken more sun cream,\u201d the 85-year-old man supposedly said before his death from heat stroke, according to the article.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 85 year old man, who drove a deisel car, cut turf, ate steak and scoffed at climate change policies passed away in Dublin\u2019s Matter hospital ICU today,\u201d reads part of the purported article\u2019s headline.<\/p>\n<p>The post is digitally fabricated, however. No such article could be found on the Irish Independent\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.ie\/search\/?q=%22i+wish+i%27d+taken+more+sun+cream%22.+last+words+of+a+dying+man+in+ICU+today\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a> or its verified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Independent.ie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Independent_ie\/with_replies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> accounts. Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=%22i+wish+i%27d+taken+more+sun+cream%22.+last+words+of+a+dying+man+in+icu+today+independent.ie&#038;oq=%22i+wish+i%27d+taken+more+sun+cream%22.+last+words+of+a+dying+man+in+icu+today+independent.ie&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60.4817j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news outlets<\/a> reporting on the 85-year-old man\u2019s alleged death or about the purported headline from the Irish Independent.<\/p>\n<p>The image featured in the fake article, showing a man in the ICU, was used in a December 2021 article published by the Irish Independent titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.ie\/world-news\/coronavirus\/omicron-its-not-yet-in-the-icus-but-its-spreading-and-its-spreading-fast-41183402.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Omicron: \u2018It\u2019s not yet in the ICUs.
