(Oliver Contreras\/Pool via AP)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN NEWSROOM<br \/>UPDATED 9:53 AM PT \u2013 Thursday, July 21, 2022<\/h5>\n<p>Attorney General Merrick Garland indicated the Department of Justice will not announce a decision on whether to prosecute former President Donald Trump over January 6 before the midterms. According to recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/07\/19\/garland-memo-trump-indictment-election\/10097439002\/\">reports<\/a>, Garland penned a memo back in May reminding agency personnel of \u201celection year sensitivities\u201d and guidance regarding investigations into political figures.<\/p>\n<p>The memo states \u201cpartisan politics\u201d must play no role in any decisions regarding investigations or criminal charges. It also says investigators should never make public statements for the purpose of effecting any election. Garland spoke about the agency\u2019s work regarding investigations into January 6 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cLook, no person is above the law in this country,\u201d he stated. \u201cNothing stops us. I don\u2019t know how to say that again. No person is above the law in this country. I can\u2019t say it any more clearly than that. There is nothing in the principles of prosecution, in any other factors which prevent us from investigating anyone, anyone who is criminally responsible for an attempt to undo a democratic election.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Attorney General Merrick Garland on January 6th investigation: &#8220;We do not do our investigations in public.
